Woodson Incorporated is Hiring a Bucket Truck Operator Near Raleigh, NC

OerOverview
Overview:
Responsible for quality and quantity of production and for following safe practices and rules while clearing and trimming trees and brush away from utility lines. Trims and/or removes trees by climbing with the aid of a ladder, safety belt, climbing line, powered trimmer lift truck, or works from the ground using gasoline, air, and hand-powered saws, pruner, etc. Cuts branches or trunk sections and drops or lowers them to the ground with lines.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Uses wedges, sledges, and chain saws in felling trees or trimmed trunks and in cutting and splitting logs into manageable pieces
  • Loads and unloads trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris and/or feeds brush into a wood chipper
  • Cut away dead, obstructive, or excess branches from trees and shrubbery
  • Utilize chain saws and work crews to safely cut down limb
  • Climb trees with safety devices to properly cut down limbs
  • Prune or treat trees or shrubs using handsaws, pruning hooks, sheers, and clippers
  • Use lifts and power tools to gain access to high areas
  • Fill in cavities of trees with chemicals to promote healing
  • Cut branches away from power lines
  • Cable, brace, tie, bolt, stake, and guy trees and branches to provide support
  • Utilize climbing equipment or buckets of extended truck booms, and/or chainsaws, hooks, handsaws, shears, and clippers
  • Use shovels and rakes to clear debris
  • Clear sites, streets, and grounds of woody and herbaceous materials, such as tree stumps and fallen trees and limbs
  • Spray and treat diseased trees
  • Water and fertilize trees
  • Apply tar to cut surfaces to seal in moisture
  • Strip bark from trees
  • Repairs slight damage to lawns, fences, and walks caused by tree trimming
  • Relays hand-signals, directs traffic, drives, and operates trucks and equipment, as assigned and keeps trucks and work area clear and orderly, as well as helps train new employees
  • Assumes responsibility for the inspection and proper working conditions of tools, truck, and other work equipment. Requests repair or replacement, when necessary
  • Maintains good housekeeping on truck and at work locations
  • Removes branches, tree material, debris and cart away large limbs for disposal
  • Operates and services equipment, such as gasoline, hydraulic tools, power saws, power winches, bucket, chipper, and sprayers
  • Uses hand-tools, such as axes, hand-lines, saws, block and tackle, pruners, etc
  • Sprays brush and stumps, making proper and selective application of herbicides
  • Obtains written or oral permission from property owners to trim or remove trees or perform other work on property. Arranges with customer or property owner to obtain access, advises of interruption, explains work to be done, etc
  • Promotes and maintains good customer and public relations through the effective accomplishment of assigned work and the appropriate behavior of employees on the crew
  • Safeguards employees and the public from hazards in and around work area
  • Cooperates with customers, police, and fire departments when blocking street or driveways
  • Sets up barriers, warning signs, flags, markers, etc. to protect employees and public.
  • Performs tree and bucket rescue
  • Possesses working knowledge and can identify tree and shrub species
Required Qualifications:
  • At least a valid Class B driver’s license
  • Must possess expert knowledge of roping, rigging and know tying
  • Must be familiar with electrical hazards
  • Use machines, tools, equipment, and work aides used to include chainsaws, hydraulic tools, and hand tools as required
  • Safely drive an approved company vehicle
  • Able to operate and service all required tools and equipment
Work Environment:
This job may operate in remote locations, void of sanitary facilities, in extreme weather conditions both hot and cold and precipitation, during light of day, during the night and possibly in flooded areas
Physical Demands:
Required to:
  • Sit for up to 4 hours
  • Squat for up to 30 minutes, or
  • Stand for up to 8 hours
  • Height for climbing – 6’ (Required to climb a ladder, stairs, or tree for up to 6’.)
  • Maximum single step height – 2’ (Required to make a maximum single step height of up to 2’ with one leg.)
  • Maximum weight carried while climbing – 30lbs (Required to carry up to 30 lbs while climbing ladder, stairs, or tree.)
  • Crawl height – 2’ (Required to be able to crawl under a 2’ crawl space.)
  • Small space/hole – 2.5’ wide (Required to be able to fit through a 2.5’ wide crawl space.)
  • Max weight single hand – 30lbs (Required to be able to lift up to 30 lbs with a single hand.)
  • Max weight both hands – 60lbs (Required to be able to lift up to 60 lbs with both hands.)
  • Max floor to waist lift – 75lbs (Required to be able to lift up to 75 lbs from the floor to the waist.)
  • Above shoulder lift – 40lbs (Required to be able to lift up to 40 lbs from the floor to above the shoulders)
