Essential Job Functions:

The partner must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation:

  • Integrate the various tools in the DevOps toolchain and SDLC process to accelerate development and infrastructure team velocity while maintaining high standards for quality and consistency.

  • Participate in the design and implementation of new solutions and improving resilience of the current environment.

  • Manage and support the DevOps tools utilized by the development and infrastructure teams and ensure they are scalable and failure proof.

  • Support and improve DevOps tools for continuous build, automated testing and release management process.

  • Design and implement continuous delivery and integration pipelines and automation workflows using available toolsets and industry best practices.

  • Champion changes to tools and processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the development and infrastructure teams.

  • Enforce, manage, and improve release processes and procedures to ensure adherence to Petco policy and governance while maximizing scale and efficiency.

  • Proactively look for ways to enhance the functionality, reliability, and operation of the DevOps toolchain and IT tools.

  • Engineer, manage, and support Jenkins environments for automated build, test and deployment.

  • Engineer, manage, and support source control and binary repository systems such as BitBucket/Stash, Git, SVN, and Nexus.

  • Design and implement build jobs in tools such as ANT, Maven, and MS Build.

  • Design and implement integration of automated testing into the deployment pipelines using Selenium, Load Runner, JMeter or similar tools.

  • Utilize scripting languages such as Bash, Windows Batch, Python, Ruby, PowerShell and Groovy to automate builds, testing, and other workflow steps.

  • Engineer, manage, and support configuration management and automation systems such as Chef or Puppet.

  • Leverage configuration management tools such as Chef or Puppet to implement automation of system configurations and software deployment for on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments.

  • Implement automation and scripting with multiple operating systems environments: Microsoft Windows, Linux, and AIX.

  • Engineer, maintain, and support containerization technologies such as Docker for use within the DevOps toolchain.

  • Expertise in Cloud Delivery Services to support Development operations.

  • Leverage REST/API services to integrate tools within the DevOps toolchain by implementing service integrations between the systems.

  • Create and maintain any custom tools or libraries used to support the Petco automation or deployment ecosystem.

  • Research and identify available third-party tools or libraries that can meet the needs of Petco teams for automation or deployment scenarios. Validate the fit of these tools and document how they are to be leveraged within the DevOps toolchain.

  • Utilize programming languages such as Java, C#, Ruby, and Perl to implement tooling automation.

  • Implement, maintain, and support the monitoring infrastructure to facilitate continuous monitoring of all environments.

  • Work with automated monitoring solutions to ensure maximum system uptime and performance. Ensure systems are right-sized for current and future needs.

  • Monitor and test system performance for potential bottlenecks within the DevOps ecosystem, help identify possible solutions and assist with implementation.

  • Perform data analysis, log analysis, and debugging to identify and resolve potential issues or areas for improvement.

  • Implement, maintain, and support centralized logging and log analysis systems.

  • Incorporate security engineering in all aspects of automation or tooling.

  • Utilize, manage and support issue tracking and agile development tools such as Atlassian JIRA and Confluence.

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of documentation for DevOps processes, knowledge base, user guides, and technical docs.

  • Develop and maintain documentation including server build docs, configuration standards, technical docs, and architecture designs for assigned domain.

  • Devise and develop analytical methods and tools to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of systems and processes including correlating those metrics to business value and ROI.

  • Create and conduct detailed training courses for the various DevOps tools to educate developers and other engineers.

  • Advise on new technologies, tools, and methodologies by researching and staying informed on emerging technologies and tools.

  • Detail-oriented individual with the ability to rapidly learn new concepts and technologies and clearly communicate complex ideas.

  • Utilize strong problem-solving skills including providing simple solutions to complex situations.

  • Able to diagnose application and user issues as they arise and work with existing vendors for support and troubleshooting.

  • An understanding of Agile delivery models or experience of implementing Agile practices.

  • Schedule and plan installations and upgrades and maintain them in accordance with IT policies and procedures.

  • Undertake small- to medium-sized enhancements or projects.

  • Define in-depth scope of work for enhancements or projects.

  • Perform moderate to complex level day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of assigned domain.

  • Adhere to all Petco and department processes and standards.

  • Assist in identifying and recommending new processes or amendments to current ones to improve team functionality and service provision to customers.

  • Plan and perform upgrade and installation activities for new hardware and software components as well as scheduled system maintenance activities and maintain them in accordance with IT policies and procedures.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional progressively responsible experience in function or 2-3 years of experience in a highly specialized function.
