BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. A high school student who is 16-years-old or older who is in good standing at his/her school, or those that have completed high school/GED. Ability to take direction and instruction from the teacher. Work with various ability levels of students. Skillful in effectively communicating with students, teachers, parents, and other school personnel. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and directions in carrying out tasks and procedures related to instructional, behavioral, emergency and health-related plans and services.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

This is paraprofessional work that requires the student aide to assist the classroom teacher in performing a variety of tasks to be carried out in an instructional setting. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the teacher and/or building administrator. The employee must interact with students, parents, and staff in a positive manner. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, student supplies or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and occasionally run. The employee, after proper training, may be required to physically assist or restrain students. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to hear the spoken word at 20 feet with back turned.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud during student outbursts.

DIMENSIONS:

Positions are contingent upon sufficient student enrollment and program needs.

An essential function of this position is the ability to work in person and physically report for work at the school.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but not limited to, the following. Work collaboratively with all stake holders in providing a world –class education. Assist with the preparation of instructional materials at the direction of the teacher. Assists with maintenance of attendance and student records. Maintain confidentiality of student information. Work with individual students or small groups at the direction of the teacher. Assists with classroom management plan. Acts as a role model for courtesy and proper school behavior. Check student work, including objective test materials at the direction of the teacher. Works cooperatively with the teacher in providing instruction and assistance to students. Assist with housekeeping chores and bulletin boards. Assist in or supervises students during any school sponsored activity occurring during the school day regardless of the location of the activity. Assists in the safe and orderly mobilization of all students to and from all school environments, including those physically disabled. Supports efforts of the teacher to provide a consistent approach in interacting with all students. Assist with clerical tasks, maintains inventory of materials assigned to the program and the classroom, and the procurement and use of media equipment. As required, accompany students to mainstreamed class and assisting with tasks, which their disability would otherwise make difficult or impossible. Complete other duties as assigned.
