Powhatan County is Hiring a Recreation Aide Near Powhatan, VA

This position is responsible for onsite support and assistance with special events, tournaments, athletic activities, and recreational programs for all ages. Hours scheduled per week will vary but may not exceed 29 hours worked. The successful candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes mainly nights and some weekends. Reliable, consistent attendance is essential to this position.
 
The starting hourly wage for this position is $16.07 per hour. 
  • Work is performed under the supervision of the Athletic Coordinator.
 
  • Performs day-to-day duties in support of Parks & Recreation facilities, properties, and programs.
 
  • Assists staff and instructors with the set-up, facilitation, and clean-up of a variety of recreational activities, programs, services, and events. Required to work athletic tournaments.
 
  • Monitors facilities during private rentals, recreational programs special events, and athletic practices/games.
 
  • Supervises participant safety and discipline; resolves conflicts as appropriate.
 
  • Administers routine First Aid and CPR as needed.
 
  • Monitors and tracks attendance for recreation programs and events.
 
  • Operates specialized computer software such as MyRec to register participants, Musco Lighting, Access It, and Avigilon to monitor facility access and security.
 
  • Receives and receipts money, preparing financial reports in conjunction with facility rental, program delivery, instructional classes, or other activities as needed.
 
  • Shows strong communication by greeting participants, addressing concerns, answering phone calls and emails, and relaying program/activity needs and information to the Supervisor.
 
  • Inspects facilities and equipment, reporting safety concerns and inventory management.
 
  • Performs general custodial tasks as needed, such as sweeping, mopping, sanitizing surfaces, and trash removal.
 
  • Assists with park and field maintenance as needed.
 
  • Performs related duties, as assigned.

  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
 
  • CPR and First Aid certifications (must acquire within 6 months of employment)
 
  • Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
 
  • Prior to employment satisfactory checks on the following must be obtained: criminal record, Child Protective Services, Sexual Offense Register, driving record, drug and alcohol test, physical, and employment reference checks.
 
  • Oversee volunteers and instructors as needed with assigning and directing work. This position is expected to resolve conflict and complaints as appropriate. On-site facility and classroom supervision are required. nd employment reference checks.
  • High school diploma or GED; some related experience or equivalent training.
 
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
 
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft and email applications, and ability to learn and use database software for the management of recreation programs.
 
  • Skilled in public relations and public service experience.
 
  • Ability to manage time effectively, show work initiative, and work independently.
 
  • Ability to drive county vehicles and operate some parks maintenance machinery.
 
  • Must obtain First Aid and CPR certifications within six months of employment.
 
  • Prior to employment satisfactory checks on the following must be obtained: criminal record, Child Protective Services, driving record, and employment reference checks.
