Position: Full-time CAD Drafter

Overview: Hatfield Metal Fabrication, Inc. is a full-service metal job shop specializing in ASME, structural steel weldments, production parts, and assemblies. Purpose: The CAD Drafter is responsible for producing NC Code for 2D cutting operations (lasers, waterjets, plasma), preparing shop drawings for customer review and approval, answering drawing and dimensional questions for the shop, and maintaining parts and drawing libraries.

Responsibilities:

• Create part and assembly drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.
• Perform complex drafting operations and detailed design using the AutoCAD family of products to produce technical process, mechanical, and assembly drawings.
• Enter design information into CNC Laser and Waterjet software to produce cutting programs.
• Import and/or accurately redraw customer-supplied drawings into computer drafting and nesting systems.
• Make necessary adjustments to customer-supplied drawings, accounting for stock and tolerance, so parts are accurately produced according to customers’ expectations.
• Ensure orders are nested for optimal material utilization.
• Organize completed programs/nests for future retrieval.
• Determine the source of errors within programs and modify accordingly.
• Collaborate with project management teams to create submittals and assist in material procurement.
• Maintain organized project documentation and records.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting during the fabrication and installation phases.
• Coordinate with other departments and external stakeholders to ensure project timelines and goals are met.
• Perform a preliminary self-check of drawings before submitting them for approval.
• Maintain the organizational structure of the CAD and project electronic filing systems.
• Conduct pre-design calls with dealers/customers to confirm design requirements.
• Communicate with customers on shop drawing approval and make project design changes as needed.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED with two years of college-level coursework in CAD/CAM or equivalent experience.
• One year of experience in CAD/CAM programming in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor; experience with SigmaNest and CNC software is a plus.
• Understanding of geometric tolerance and the ability to read and interpret customer-supplied drawings and blueprints.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Experience with MS Office applications (Word, Excel).
• Knowledge of and the ability to comply with OSHA safety programs.
• Associate’s degree or higher in Drafting, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is a plus, but not required.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

• General office environment (keyboard, mouse, telephone use).
• Manual dexterity (grasp, hand/wrist movement).
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and reach.
• Exposure to powered industrial equipment.
• Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) according to the training plan.
• Occasional light shop work measuring existing parts and moving parts.
• Ability to lift 20 lbs. unassisted up to counter height for measuring applications.
