Position: Registered Nurse, PRN

Location: 805 N Avenue F, Post, TX 79356

Employment type: Direct hire; PRN

Work schedule: 12-hour shift (7:00-7:00); Nights or days

Facility setting: Ambulatory-like setting with short-stays and urgent care

Position responsibilities include:

• Attend sick call with the physicians to see clients; prepare examining room and equipment.
• Call the physician for medication and treatment orders and other emergencies.
• Operate pill call, administer medication and accurately and completely document treatment.
• Examine and assess clients with illnesses or injuries or clients who become ill or injured; confer with physician to refer clients to the emergency room as required by their condition and document in medical record or other forms as appropriate.
• Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules.
• Review medical files to determine all provided services are documented.
• Observe and record inmate behavior, assess and triage with appropriate documentation.
• Inspect medical unit for items that could be used as contraband by clients; securely store or safely dispose of supplies and equipment. Control medication, syringes, or other medical supplies.
• It is expected the incumbent will with overtime when directed to do so.
• Prepare and maintain narrative, statistical, summary, and operational records, reports and logs.
• Properly chart medical care.
• This position requires long periods of standing and walking and may require climbing stairs.
• Regular and predictable on-site attendance is required.
• Interpret an extensive variety of medical and technical instructions in the form of handwritten text, correspondence, policies, regulations, procedures, reports, directions for forms completion and other documents.
• Read, analyze, comprehend, and interpret medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, legal and non-legal documents.

Education and experience requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• A current, valid RN license for the state of Texas or a compact state is necessary.
• Must possess current CPR certification.
• A valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management.
• Must pass a background check.
