Title: Certified Coding Specialist
Location: Oyate - 1776 SW Madison St, Portland, OR 97205
Schedule: This is a remote position, Monday through Friday 8:30am-5pm.
Wage Range: $24-$27, non-exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary function of this position is to perform ICD10, CPT and HCPCS coding for reimbursement. The Coding Specialist will be responsible to review, analyze, code diagnostic, procedural information and abstract medical information, including final diagnoses and procedures, from an Electronic Medical Record for financial reimbursement and data reporting purposes to ensure reimbursement and contractual reporting accuracy. This ensures compliance with established coding guidelines, third party reimbursement policies and reporting regulation guidelines.


What you will do:

  • Reviews and verifies assigned codes and sequences diagnosis and procedures according to regulations (e.g., ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and HIPPA coding guidelines) and abstracts accurate clinical information to obtain the most specific code possible to ensure an accurate health information database.
  • Reviews and/or audits data submitted on charge documents and documentation provided by the clinician of service to ensure appropriate codes are assigned in accordance with state, governmental and institutional coding and auditing rules and regulations.
  • Assign appropriate modifiers, and follow the Correct Coding Initiative guidelines.
  • Review and provide resolution of coding/billing edits.
  • Contacts physicians for clarification of clinical information as appropriate
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of coding and regulatory requirements to accurately assign codes for appropriate reimbursement of healthcare services. Continue to strive to meet continuing education requirements for certification or to maintain working knowledge of on-going changes to CPT, HCPS, and ICD codes
  • Participate in and assist with audits to capture lost charges and determine the accuracy of billing as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate good interpersonal and professional skills when interacting with others throughout NARA.
  • May be required to attend group, or individual meetings with physicians or with administration.
  • Must be flexible and adapt to changing work assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


We would like to hear from people that have:

  • CPC (Certified Coding Profession) certification required
  • Associate degree preferred
  • Two years current experience insurance coding, billing, and accounts receivable processes in a medical clinic or allied medical entity, preferred.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records. Centricity preferred. RPMS preferred.
  • Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance billing and reimbursement processes
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) and internet resources.
  • Exceptional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills; organizational skills; high degree of accuracy; flexibility, ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients, the community, and other staff members.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, other NARA staff, team members, and to treat everyone with respect and dignity at all times.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience working within the Native American/Alaska Native community is considered a plus.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment or for cause drug tests.
  • Ability to pass criminal background and DMV checks.
