Portland Webworks is Hiring an User Experience Designer (Portland, Maine) Near Portland, ME

When you join Portland Webworks, you are joining an organization of bright, talented, dedicated individuals whose goal is to deliver high-quality software solutions using industry best practices. Our success relies on your experience and judgment to collaborate and help accomplish project goals.

Our current project focus is on the public sector, providing technical and user-centered design services. When people think of the government, they usually do not think of beautiful or even highly usable software. We are working to change that perception, while helping people work towards self-reliance and personal success. PWW is seeking talented, team-oriented creative individuals to work with us. We want strategic thinkers who produce creative solutions when confronted with difficult challenges.

As a User Experience (UX) Designer at Portland Webworks, you can expect to:

  • Work with a team of highly skilled software developers, project managers, graphic designers and quality assurance professionals who enjoy creating the best possible solutions for our diverse (and ever-expanding) client base.
  • Collaborate with a few assigned clients to understand their business requirements, develop a firm understanding of their complex systems and processes, and devise potential solutions to the problems presented.
  • Conduct user research and usability tests that result in informed, highly usable, and effective interaction design of our applications.
  • Lead and contribute to discovery activities for new client projects, aimed at clarifying and capturing user needs, business requirements, and design inputs and constraints.
  • Present and advocate on behalf of your recommendations to clients, stakeholders, managers, executives, and internal implementation team members.
  • Create meaningful solutions for real people across the United States, and see your ideas and solutions come to life.

As a User Experience (UX) Designer at Portland Webworks, you will bring:

  • 3-5 years of UX design experience. A portfolio, work sample, or case study review is required. Candidates with prior experience providing UX design and research in a consulting-oriented setting preferred.
  • Prior experience and interest in presenting ideas to large project teams, and becoming an expert in the subject matter you design for.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with project members and a basic understanding of Agile principles.
  • Strategic and creative thinking that translates business intelligence into actionable plans for interaction design.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and enthusiasm for being part of the solution.
  • Skills to bring concepts through to completion, from requirements gathering, business analysis and user research to content strategy and planning and to user testing to low fidelity wireframes and prototypes, site maps and schematics.
  • Fluency with creating low-fidelity wireframes and prototypes in Figma.
  • Solid decision-making and judgment, and the ability to think conceptually.
  • Ability to react to urgent needs and to deliver results on a demanding timeline.
  • Willingness to accept feedback and contribute to client expectation-setting.
  • Understanding of the technology behind web development (HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc.)
  • Experience working with responsive frameworks.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to contribute positively to teams.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced Agile software development environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in the public sector preferred.
