Responsibilities:
- Perform preliminary patient screenings, including taking medical history and documenting chief complaints
- Conduct various diagnostic tests, such as visual acuity, tonometry, and visual field testing
- Assist ophthalmologist or optometrist during examinations and procedures
- Administer eye drops or medications as directed by the healthcare provider
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Provide patient education on eye care, contact lens use, and post-operative instructions
- Clean and maintain ophthalmic equipment and instruments
- Assist with scheduling appointments and managing patient flow in the clinic
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; certification as an ophthalmic technician preferred
- Previous experience working in a medical office or ophthalmology setting is highly desirable
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and ophthalmic procedures
- Familiarity with medical billing systems and insurance verification processes
- Proficient in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems for documentation and scheduling purposes
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients of all ages, including pediatric patients
- Knowledge of aseptic technique and ability to maintain a clean and sterile environment
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced clinical setting
