Qualifications:

• A graduate degree in school psychology from a program with accreditation from either the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) or the American Psychological Association (APA).
• Certification for Specialist in school psychology (grades Pre-K – 12) per Florida State Board of Education Rule 6A-4.031 or State of Florida licensure requirements as a school psychologist
• Specialist-level degree or higher *Preferred
• Prior work experience as a school psychologist *Preferred

 Performance Responsibilities:

1. Consults and counsels with parents, students, teachers, outside agencies and other appropriate school or community personnel regarding the academic, psychological and behavioral needs of general education and special education students.
2. Participates as a member of the Teacher Support Team for pre-referral activities and interventions.
3. Provides training and consultation to teachers and staff regarding the MTSS process and district policies/procedures.
4. Conducts behavioral consultations, individual assessments, psychological evaluations, and observations of referred students in prekindergarten through grade twelve.
5. Conducts Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) for general education students during the pre-referral process.
6. Develops Individual Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) based on results from the Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA).
7. Assists/collaborates with the IEP team and behavior specialist with the Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and the development of behavior intervention plans for ESE students.
8. Prepares and interprets written reports.
9. Helps identify exceptional students within the Charlotte County Public Schools, as well as from charter schools, home-school, pre-school, private schools, and virtual schools.
10. Develops and updates psychological case records on all referred students.
11. Participates as a member of staffing committees for discussion of evaluation results and recommendations for students.
12. Reviews records of new students to help determine eligibility and services for Exceptional Student Education according to district guidelines.
13. Participates as a required team member for manifestation determination meetings.
14. Assists the section 504 team in determining eligibility and appropriate accommodations.
15. Performs file reviews on existing ESE students and participates in Re-Evaluation Determination Meetings to help determine the need for formal assessment.
16. Participates in file reviews on incoming students – both temporary and permanent placements.
17. Participates as a member of the Administrative Review Team (ART) to review interventions, data, and additional information collected during the MTSS process in order to determine the need for formal assessment.
18. Participates as a member of the school Threat Assessment Team (TAT).
19. Collaborates with the school social worker (SSW) to conduct pre-disciplinary reports for the Suspension Expulsion Review Team (SERT).
20. Collaborates with the School Social Worker (SSW) to conduct threat assessments.
21. Facilitates the psychiatric consultation for contracted services and acts as liaison between home, school, and the psychiatrist.
22. Facilitates mental health referrals for ESE students.
23. Provides staff development or in-service training to individual schools, or at the district level, upon request.
24. Provides short-term and long-term individual or group counseling to help students overcome emotional and/or behavioral difficulties that impact school performance.
25. Conducts risk assessments and provides crisis intervention so as to support students and teachers during times of crisis.
26. Acts as a school-community liaison and provides community referral resources as available.
27. Participates on district and/or community wide committees to plan programs that promote academic, personal and social development of students and families.
28. Collects and analyzes data for school/district research projects as requested.
29. Provides formal program evaluation for the district, as requested.
30. Serves as the facilitator for parent training and/or support groups, as needed.
31. Maintains records of services provided to students through the district computer system.
32. Maintains working knowledge of interest-based software and school wide databases.
33. Remains abreast of current research in the field.
34. Assists in the evaluation of school psychological programs and services.
35. Performs other job-related functions as assigned.
