School Nurse
General Summary:
The School Nurse provides health services to the student population in order to assure a safe and healthy environment.
Essential Job Functions*:
Assesses scene safety, injury, and illness and responds with appropriate intervention.
Upon completion of nursing assessment, make appropriate referrals as required.
Administers the proper medication and treatments required.
Provides appropriate and accurate documentation while maintaining the utmost in confidentiality.
Monitors and reports suspected cases of abuse and neglect.
Makes necessary provisions for students entitled to a 504 Accommodation Plan
Regularly works with parents, teachers, guidance counselors and principals relative to particular concerns or issues.
Provides health education to students and parents as necessary.
Refers parents and students to the necessary resources in order to provide health education
Attends and participates in hospital/departmental meetings as required.
Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
Demonstrates hospital’s stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.
Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.
Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.
Qualifications For Employees:
Education
Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Work Experience
Required: Minimum 1 year nursing experience.
Preferred: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in pediatric nursing or other related nursing areas.
Licensure/Certifications/Registrations
Required: Must have Registered Nurse licensure in the State of New Hampshire. Have current BLS certification (adult, child, and infant).
Preferred: Basic first aid training. Certification in School Nursing.
Other Skills/Knowledge
Required: Ability to interrelate with the student age population. Knowledge of the current laws/regulations regarding suspected neglect and abuse. Ability to perform nursing assessments with appropriate interventions.
Preferred: Experience assisting children with various health challenges
(e.g. asthma, diabetes). Working knowledge of SNAP.
