Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for providing 24-hour management of all clinical functions of respective program (i.e. Detox, PHP, IOP, Etc. Also responsible for providing effective leadership to assigned clinical staff, has knowledge of, and directs all activities within the program in accordance with standards of State and Federal regulations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, or health-related field.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 2 years management setting familiarity, with continuous Quality Improvement, Joint Commission standards. Communication skills to relate to all levels of management staff.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Florida Requirement:

LMHC, LCSW or Registered Intern with active clear license or certification in good standing.

Maine Requirement:

CMR 5-14-118 11.2 clinical supervisors must be credentialed as Certified Clinical Supervisors by the Maine State Board of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors.

New Jersey Requirement:

Be a New Jersey licensed psychologist with at least five years of experience in addiction services, two of those years in a supervisory capacity, who possesses a Certification of Proficiency in the Treatment of Alcohol and other Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders from the American Psychological Association, College of Professional Psychology, www.apa.org/, or is a Certified Clinical Supervisor by the Addictions Professionals Certification Board of New Jersey (APCBNJ), http://www.certbd.com/pdfs/initial-applications/ccs.pdf;

2.Be a New Jersey licensed clinical social worker with at least five years of experience in addiction services, two of those years in a supervisory capacity, who is a certified clinical supervisor by the APCBNJ, http://www.certbd.com/pdfs/initialapplications/ccs.pdf;

3.Be a New Jersey licensed professional counselor, or licensed marriage and family therapist, with at least five years of experience in addiction services, two of those years in a supervisory capacity, who is a certified clinical supervisor by the APCBNJ, http://www.certbd.com/pdfs/initial-applications/ccs.pdf;

4.Be a New Jersey LCADC with at least five years of experience in addiction services, two of those years in a supervisory capacity, who, in addition, holds a clinical Master's degree recognized by the State Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners, Alcohol and Drug Committee, Division of Consumer Affairs, New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety;

5.Be a New Jersey licensed physician who is certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, or is a Board-certified psychiatrist, and has at least two years of supervisory experience in addiction services; N.J.A.C. 10:161A-1.8

6.Be a New Jersey licensed advanced practice nurse with at least five years of experience in addiction services, two of those years in a supervisory capacity, who is a clinical supervisor certified by the APCBNJ, http://www.certbd.com/pdfs/initialapplications/ccs.pdf; or 7.Have a doctoral degree in human services, mental health or social work with at least two years of supervisory experience. 

CPR Certification required – All States

KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING REQUIRED AT TIME OF HIRE:

  • Knowledge of Joint Commission standards.
  • Knowledge of the Principles and Practices of the discipline. 
  • Demonstrates Proficiency in Communication & Written skills.
  • Knowledge of State & Federal Statutes Regarding Patient Confidentiality laws.
  • Knowledge of Drug-Free Workplace Policies.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Violence.

AGE SPECIFIC INDIVIDUALS SERVED/ RESPONSIBILITY:

Adults

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY TO POSITION

  1. Direct management and supervision of Primary Therapists, Case Managers, Group Facilitators
  2. Execute clinical philosophy in programming through education, training, and clinical supervision
  3. Ensure that staff performance and client experience is consistent with highest standard of care
  4. Perform direct care at all levels of care
  5. Facilitate supervision meetings & trainings with clinical team at the direction of CD or in the absence of CD
  6. Assess therapists’ and case managers’ individual performance and address shortcoming and areas needing improvement
  7. Participate in training process for new personnel
  8. Conducts process groups, educational, chemical dependency, and other groups as assigned (minimum of 3 groups).
  9. Build & maintain a cohesive treatment team
  10. Identify shortfalls in clients completing full continuum and implement corrective action
  11. Interface with leadership/ownership on organization’s vision and objectives
  12. Facilitate involuntary commitments (Marchman Acts & Baker Acts)
  13. Create Staff Scheduling for Program Clinical Staff
  14. Approve PTO and review/approve Timecards for CM and Therapists
  15. Assists with addressing HR Issues related to clinical staff
  16. Interviews for Program Clinical Staff
  17. Attend quarterly meetings for the following committees: Clinical Peer Review Committee
  18. Completes Quality Audits and Client Surveys follow up
  19. QP signing of charts
  20. Carry a caseload of clients (This number differs depending upon the level of care)
  21. Manages Intern Program
  22. Adheres to the facility’s philosophy.
  23. Maintains an effective clinical organizational structure and delegates appropriate authority for completion of assigned responsibilities.
  24. Implements plans for performance improvement.
  25. Provides for staff development (i.e. supervision, educational, etc.)
  26. Facilitates communication with ancillary services.
  27. Attends clinical and administrative meetings to share information inter-departmentally.
  28. Meets with clinical staff weekly.
  29. Works collaboratively with the Clinical Director.
  30. Demonstrates knowledge of administrative and clinical policies and procedures, and the ability to communicate these clearly and accurately to staff.
  31. Demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures; ability to communicate these procedures clearly and accurately.
  32. Displays ability to direct and supervise Program activities.
  33. Ensures clinical staff meets educational/licensure requirements.
  34. Evaluates clinical staff based on specified performance standards, on a timely basis.
  35. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to changes in the work environment.
  36. Follows Infection Control guidelines at all times.
  37. Provides a safe and therapeutic environment to all staff and patients.
  38. Assists in formulating standards for patient care.
  39. Performs other tasks, as assigned.
