Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Packaging Engineer, located in Plaquemine, LA.
About You And This RoleThe Packaging Engineer provides packaging specific technical support throughout the entire value chain. Ensures packaging designs are optimized and considerations are given to material, equipment and supplier selection; impact on manufacturing operations and logistics productivity; functional and regulatory requirements; functional and business strategies; cost rationalization; and customer expectations that result in creating a competitive advantage for packaged products. Entry level to a professional career progression. Receives instruction, guidance and direction from more senior level roles. Requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within job discipline. Performs routine assignments and solves standard problems using existing procedures. Applies general knowledge of business developed through education or past experience. Analyzes information and standard practices to make judgments.
Responsibilities
  • Manages packaging support and project requests per assigned business aligned, commodity and specialization areas.
  • Develops and maintains packaging expertise across diverse packaging types, materials, processes, equipment and technology.
  • Understands and applies new technology to ensure that Dow packaging and delivery systems technology is “best in class”.
  • Provides knowledge/experience/leadership to solve packaging related issues.
  • Provides project documentation and communication for all packaging support and project requests, including quality issues and QN management.
  • Develops optimized package designs for new product launches and packaging improvements that ensure user safety, product protection, environmental impact, and optimized cost that can be integrated into production and packaging facilities.
  • Works in partnership with Package Purchasing, Operations, Site Logistics, EH&S, and Transportation Safety & Security to ensure Supply Chain and Dow’s goals are met.
The critical competencies required for success are: act upon and lead safety requirements, interpersonal effectiveness, understanding customer needs, team work, taking initiative, problem solving skills, technical proficiency and analytical skills
Experience
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in a manufacturing or supply chain environment
