The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing purchasing agents and coordinators. Additionally, they will manage activities related to negotiating and purchasing all required materials to produce manufacturing products, maintaining machinery, and other supplies, in accordance with company policies and procedures. The Purchasing Manager will collaborate with other department managers to support operations across all facilities while driving efficiencies for cost-effective production.
Responsibilities
  • Promote work safety and adhere to established safety procedures
  • Comply and oversee Quality Management Systems (ISO) for purchasing and supplier monitoring
  • Regularly lead, direct and provide training to purchasing agents
  • Identify best possible prices for the goods and services being purchased
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers, as applicable, in accordance with Limits of Authority
  • Negotiate payment terms that are beneficial to the company
  • Monitor supplier performance for purchased goods and services
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance (QA) and suppliers to enhance performance by addressing quality and delivery concerns
  • Assist on developing inventory levels related to economic buys and inventory targets
  • Maintain records in accordance with Quality Management System and other purchasing requirements
  • Oversee purchases of production materials, supplies, and scrap for recycling operations
  • Establish and improve procedures and guidelines for any and all purchasing activities
  • Assist in accounting paperwork regarding any discrepancies and/or chargebacks
  • Work closely with our Scheduling, Manufacturing, and Sales teams to support our production schedules
  • Minimize slow moving and/or obsolete inventories, and optimize inventory levels
  • Other duties as assigned by management
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or 7 years of progressive purchasing experience
Experience
  • APIC certification with scheduling experience is preferred, in addition to a purchasing background
  • Previous management experience preferred

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical abilities and decision-making skills to conduct price comparisons and evaluate vendor proposals
  • Thorough understanding of procurement best practices, purchasing, and/or supply chain management
  • Skilled in negotiation and building professional networks
  • Solid knowledge of integrated ERP software
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems
  • Microsoft Office Suite
