Summary of Responsibilities:

The Tax Revenue Coordinator shall generally be charged with the administration and enforcement of all Tribal tax laws on behalf of the Iowa Tribe Tax Commission. The position will be responsible for collecting taxes, issuing receipts, and determining any penalties or interest with direct approval from the Tax Commission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct independent field audits and investigations to confirm tax liabilities.
• Analyze accounting books and records to determine compliance with tax code.
• Confer with representatives of entities to explain issues involved and applicability of relevant tax laws and regulations.
• Participate in informal appeals on contested cases.
• Maintain knowledge of tax code changes.
• Examine and analyze tax assets and liabilities to determine resolution of delinquent tax problems.
• Assess, collect, and issue receipts for such taxes as are imposed for the collection of Tribal taxes, penalties, and interest.
• Issue Tribal vehicle tags following program policy and procedure.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Two (2) years previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience with revenue accounting or revenue generation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of Tribal Tax Code.
• Ability to handle confidential material, organize effectively and work independently.
• Ability to exercise good judgment at all times, including under stressful, high-pressure situations.
• Thorough skills in effectively working with people, in evaluation and choosing appropriate course of action; and in communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
• Must be strategic, have a good professional presence, and possess strong planning and organizational skills and experience leading projects.
• Must be able to change priorities at a moment’s notice.
• Must be able to read, understand, apply and retain knowledge of departmental rules, regulations, and policies.
• Productive and effective time management, flexibility in responding to a variety of work tasks.
• Proficiency with basic information technology.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
