About the position:

Provides workplace safety consultation and compliance guidance with a strong knowledge of occupational health and safety, and a working knowledge of state and Federal compliance regulations. Determines safety and security risks for the agency and finds ways to reduce those risks through planning and problem-solving. Effectively evaluates workplace hazards, the effectiveness of workplace hazard controls, provides recommendations to improve workplace safety efforts. Provides safety awareness and other training as needed. Routinely travels to worksites to investigate complaints and conduct regular audits, identifying potential risks and ensuring regulatory compliance and to develop and implement risk reduction strategies.


Job Function:

  • Creates and implements safety and risk management related policies and procedures.
  • Develops, modifies, and presents various safety related material to the workforce as requested.
  • Oversees utilization and updating of the Emergency Response Plan.
  • In conjunction with the CHRO, manages employee emergency communication system.
  • Coordinates and teaches agency wide CPR training classes.
  • Manages and maintains agency AED machines, ensuring functionality and compliance.
  • Participate in special projects assigned by senior leadership.
  • Conducts worksite audits to identify potential risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Completes, tracks, maintains and files annual OSHA reports.
  • Stays abreast of changing best practices and legal compliance with related to safety and risk management.
  • Develops and implements strategies to reduce or eliminate risk by heading CHAIL’s Safety Committees.
  • When notified of an accident or safety concern, leads the investigation.
  • Watches for trends in accident data and implements action items when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a degree in business, human resources, occupational health and safety or other relative program from an accredited university preferred.
  • 2 years compliance and workplace safety experience required.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Trainer certification and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training required upon hire or obtained within 3 months of employment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talks and hears. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and/or crouch. This position requires Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training so the incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of that training.
  • Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
  • Frequently moves up to 10 lbs., occasionally moves up to 50 pounds.
  • Mainly indoor, office or school environment conditions; indoor air quality is good, and temperature is controlled.
  • Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic. May be around loud youth at times.
  • This position requires regional travel required to other local agency locations.
  • Some driving is required. Must provide own vehicle, valid Illinois driver license and proof of full insurance coverage.
