POSITION SUMMARY: The Biomedical Equipment Technician performs scheduled maintenance and builds a knowledge base of a variety of common medical devices. Examples of these medical devices are; Infusion Pumps, Centrifuges, Suction pumps, Patient Support equipment, etc. The Biomedical Equipment Technician will also provide the following services; incoming equipment inspections, installation, recall & alert activities and calibration & repair of medical devices. The Biomedical Equipment Technician may also be asked perform scheduled maintenance and repairs of a wide variety of medical devices ranging from basic medical technology to sophisticated systems. Examples of these medical devices are; Networked physiological monitoring systems, defibrillators, Medical Laboratory equipment, various Respiratory Therapy equipment, specialized surgical systems, basic X-ray systems, Ultrasound, etc. The BMET II will also provide the following services; incoming equipment inspections, installation, recall & alert activities and calibration & repair of medical devices.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY:Daily travel between customer locations to service medical devices.Complete all scheduled maintenance assigned in accordance with the manufacturers’ and/or local guidelines within the prescribed timeframe.Perform and document equipment incoming acceptance inspections.Troubleshoot and repair general medical equipment.Document, in near real time, all repair and maintenance related activities, including the activities of outside vendors using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Documentation includes, but is not limited to, activities of OSF Mission Partners & outside vendors that reflects an accounting of time, parts, and the use of specific codes related to activity, cause and status.Conduct rounds in assigned areas to identify equipment issues and foster excellent customer relations.Maintain a safe, clean, well-organized work area as well as participating in maintaining the same for common areas of the department/shop.Report all unsafe conditions or possible code violations, regardless of cause or location to the appropriate OSF Healthcare entity.Actively participate in individual career development and advancement through foral and informal training as well as seeking out mentors within the department.
QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education - Must have one of the following: Completed High School Diploma/GED or Completed Associates Degree
Experience - Two to six years experience in Electronic, Mechanical, IT, or Healthcare industry
Licensure/Certifications: Valid drivers license
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelors Degree
Experience: 1 year in medical device service. Human Anatomy and Physiology Medical Terminology. Advanced Biomedical Equipment Service “vendor” training (Patient monitoring, electrosurgical, infusion). Military Training in Technical Field.
License/Certifications: AAMI/ DOD, CBET or CLES certification.
