Overview

University Instructors, LLC is recruiting for immediate placement of a dynamic full-time Special Education Teacher (Moderate / Severe) (credentialed or non-credentialed) in Paso Robles, CA.

Essential Functions :

In this role, you will provide instruction and related services for students with mild / moderate or moderate / severe disabilities.

You will help to create and modify lesson plans to meet the unique learning needs of each individual student. Support needs can range from intellectual, behavioral, emotional, communication, sensory and / or motor impairments.

You will work with the IEP team, to help develop an IEP for each student to establish set goals and objectives commensurate with the student’s ability and achievement.

You will also work collaboratively with the regular school programs to coordinate special education services for each student as needed.

You will also be responsible for the maintenance and safeguarding of student records in accordance with state and federal guidelines.

CREATING & MAINTAINING EFFECTIVE ENVIRONMENTS FOR STUDENT LEARNING

Help create a physical environment that engages all students.

Establish a climate that promotes fairness and respect.

Promote social development and group responsibility.

Establish and maintain standards for student behavior.

Plan and implement classroom procedures and routines that support student learning

Use instructional time effectively.

UNDERSTANDING & ORGANIZING SUBJECT MATTER FOR STUDENT LEARNING

Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter content and student development.

Organize curriculum to support student understanding of subject matter. Interrelating ideas and information within and across subject matter areas.

Develop student understanding through instructional strategies that are appropriate to the subject matter.

Use materials, resources, and technologies to make subject matter accessible to students.

PLANNING NSTRUCTION & DESIGNING LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR ALL STUDENTS

Draw on and value students' backgrounds, interests, and developmental learning needs.

Establish and articulate goals for student learning.

Develop and sequence instructional activities and materials for student learning.

Design short-term and long-term plans to foster student learning.

Modify instructional plans to adjust for student needs.

ASSESSING STUDENT LEARNING

Establish and communicate learning goals for all students.

Collect and use multiple sources of information to assess student learning.

Involve and guide all students in assessing their own learning.

Use the results of assessments to guide instruction.

Communicate with students, families, and other audiences about student progress.

DEVELOPING AS A PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR

Reflect on teaching practice and planning professional development.

Establish professional goals and pursuing opportunities to grow professionally.

Work with communities to improve professional practice.

Work with families to improve professional practice.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Possess knowledge of instructional techniques and strategies appropriate to the curriculum; State frameworks, district approved curriculum, board / district policies and procedures;

current and relevant assessment techniques and strategies.

An ability to establish and maintain behavior expectations, including an orderly, efficient, effective and safe student environment;

Must be willing to learn and interpret laws and rules and regulations related to the operation of public schools.

Qualifications

  • Valid California Moderate / Severe Education Specialist Credential with authorization to provide services to individuals with autism.
  • Must have English Language Learner authorization.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Ability to see for purposes of reading policies and printed material.
  • Ability to understand speech at normal levels in person or on the telephone.
  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to understand a normal conversation in person or on the telephone.
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment including computers and computer software with dexterity.
  • Ability to occasionally lift / carry supplies, materials and equipment weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate mental acuity in the performance of job related duties and interactions with students and adults.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Public school work environment subject to sitting at a desk or standing for long periods of time, bending and crouching, kneeling at files, pushing / pulling file drawers, equipment, and supplies, reaching in all directions and working at a computer or other standard school equipment.
