Midwest Optical Systems is Hiring a CNC Operator Near Palatine, IL

Midwest Optical Systems (MidOpt) has 30 years of experience and innovation in the fields of optical design, fabrication and inspection. MidOpt is recognized as the world's leading resource for machine vision filters, lenses and accessories.

This position is responsible for operating various equipment to produce parts that are used by technicians to make finished goods. Machines used include glass cutting and shaping equipment, a waterjet, a lathe, a laser cutter/engraver and a 3D printer.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Setting up, programming and operating the TLC glass cutting machine, C02 laser, tabletop waterjet, ophthalmic edger and 3D printer
  • Loading material for cutting, calibrating and producing accurate parts that match specifications
  • Accurately reading and interpreting manufacturing blueprints
  • Verifying technical drawings according to customer requirements
  • Filing document paperwork neatly and accurately
  • Performing quality checks on in-process and completed parts
  • Detecting machine malfunctions and/or need for maintenance
  • Following established company and safety procedures
  • Keeping work area clean and organized
  • Successfully working alone as well as a team-player
  • Reporting to work on time and ready to work

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or 2 years of relevant experience at a minimum
  • Job-related experience in optics is preferred
  • CNC experience preferred
  • Basic math, computer and measurement skills required
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented
  • Availability to work overtime and Saturdays as needed
  • Able to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods of time on solid surfaces
