JOB SUMMARY:
Our Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for assisting eye health professionals in the treatment of eye diseases. The ideal candidate has a background in both the medical and computer sciences and is proficient in dealing with large amounts of information. An Ophthalmic Technician should strive to create a patient experience that is both safe and effective and will be responsible for operating sophisticated technology.
Provide accurate documentation and summarization of the ophthalmic examination and recommendations. Assists in maintaining efficient patient flow. Responsible for the accuracy of patient charts. Provides a variety of patient care activities to assist the physician and medical office personnel.
RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Escorts the patient to an examination room and performs the initial portion of the exam. This includes, but is not limited to: Visual acuity, field and muscle testing, pupil testing, refractions, lensometry, pressure check, patient history and chief complaint.
2. Accurately maintain the patient chart. This may include but is not limited to proper scanning of documents into the appropriate electronic medical record category, generating chart notes and patient plans and sending appropriate records through the patient portal.
3. Become fluent in the exact requirements of each exam and use the industry recognized standard of ophthalmic abbreviations.
4. Demonstrates the ability to work with patients of all ages.
5. Answers patient questions in exam room as well as over the telephone, including triage calls for physician. Act as a liaison between physician and patient.
6. Provide educational information to the patient regarding treatment plans prescribed by physician.
7. Perform diagnostic testing. This includes, but is not limited to IOL Master, topography, OCT (MAC and ON).

10. Become fluent in the exact requirements of each exam and use the industry recognized standard of ophthalmic abbreviations.
11. Demonstrates the ability to work with patients of all ages.
12. Answers patient questions in exam room as well as over the telephone, including triage calls for physician. Act as a liaison between physician and patient.
13. Provide educational information to the patient regarding treatment plans prescribed by physician.
14. Perform diagnostic testing. This includes, but is not limited to IOL Master, topography, OCT (MAC and ON).
15. Schedule follow up appointments as indicated.
16. Maintain and stock exam rooms.
17. Witness consent forms.
18. When applicable, will maintain the triage desk and handle incoming phone calls from patients, help with refills, scheduling appointments and general questions from patients.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma
Fluent in English
Basic understanding of algebraic principles
One-year experience in medical office
Computer literacy, especially the ability to type in a dimly lit room
Excellent verbal and written communication
Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
Experience maintaining patient confidentiality.
Must be able to stand or walk for up to 8 hours a day.
SHIFT:
Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm
