Responsibilities:

- Provide companionship and emotional support to client
- Assist in administering medication as needed by facility staff
- Monitor and record client behavior
- Provide redirection and de-escalation techniques as needed
- Assist client with daily tasks as requested by client or facility staff
- Follow care plans and communicate any changes in the client's condition to the appropriate healthcare professionals and guardian

Experience:

- Previous experience working with individuals with dementia, TBI, or PTSD required
- Knowledge of basic medical procedures, such as administering medication
- Familiarity with home care practices and protocols
- Ability to navigate difficult behaviors with appropriate responses, de-escalation techniques and avoidance of physical altercation between self/client/ and facility staff
- Understanding of appropriate emergency and crisis protocols, such as seeking other care staff and contacting emergency services when de-escalation techniques are unsuccessful
- First aid and CPR certification is a plus

This position will take place within a memory care unit in the client's room and surrounding common areas. You will provide support to the client and facility staff as an extra layer of oversight and 1x1 service. This particular client in need has a history of disruptive behaviors and physical altercations with staff and caregivers as a result of dementia and PTSD. It is imperative that their personal care workers are willing and capable of managing these challenging behaviors with compassion and have a desire to create a professional companionship relationship with them despite an unpredictable baseline.
