ABOUT THE SISTERS OF THE HOLY NAMES OF JESUS AND MARY
The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM) is an international congregation of Catholic Sisters based in Montreal, Canada. The U.S.-Ontario Province has offices in in Oregon, California, Washington, and Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The Sisters of the Holy Names have a long history of educating young women and other ministry work dating back to the founding of the order in 1843. The Sisters are dedicated to the full development of the human person through education, social justice, contemplation and the arts.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for all areas of financial planning and management for the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary U.S. – Ontario Province including investment management, property management, accounting, and insurance. This position also serves as Treasurer for the Sisters of the Holy Family.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES Financial Management: Supervises the preparation of complete and accurate records of assets, liabilities, and financial transactions. Responsible for overseeing cash flow of the organization. Investment Management: Working with the Investment Committee and Investment Consultant, reviews and evaluates the investment policy, recommends investment managers, and evaluates the performance of the managers.
Property Management: Safeguards and supervises the management of community-owned property including land, buildings and automobiles. Responsible for the acquisition and disposition of properties. Manages leases of various properties.
Legal and Taxation: Relates to province and legal counsel on property, tax and contractual issues. Supervises the preparation of all forms and reports required by government agencies. Prepares contracts or agreements. Prepares appropriate tax filings.
Treasurer for Sisters of the Holy Family (SHF): Works closely with the SHF leadership team and/or Canonical Trustee in overseeing financial management for the community. Supervises the controller, oversees investment management, and manages insurance program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
1. Supportive of the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.
2. Proven ability to use sound judgment, tact, and discretion in handling sensitive issues and to respect and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
3. Deep understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, non-profit accounting, budgeting and audits.
4. An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral and written communication skills.
5. Able to diagnose problems quickly and have foresight into potential issues.
6. Ability to interact and influence at all levels of an organization and with multiple stakeholders.
7. Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.
8. Ability to supervise, direct work and develop employees in a positive manner.
9. Understanding of vowed religious life and/or experience working with a religious congregation preferred.
10. Ability to travel as needed, including occasionally international travel (Canada).
EDUCATION This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification in Accounting, Business or Finance. MBA or a CPA is preferred.
EXPERIENCE 10-15 years of broad finance experience with multiple responsibilities gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leaders.

PAY RANGE: $155,000 - $170,000 depending on experience
