Custom Fire Apparatus in Osceola, WI, is currently seeking a full-time, onsite Design Engineer. Responsibilities:

  • Develop 2D preliminary, proposal, and contract AutoCAD sales drawings based upon customer requirements and specifications.
  • Obtain customer sign off on final AutoCAD or 3D model photos of fully engineered build drawings and specification.
  • Communicate with Sales, Production, Materials, and Service staff to incorporate unique components and configurations into a project, make changes, update specifications, resolution of discrepancies, etc.
  • Design and 3D modeling of apparatus bodies, pump modules, plumbing assemblies, and miscellaneous related components such as chassis upgrades and equipment storage features and fixtures.
  • Prepare all sheet metal part drawings using post processing software for laser cutting.
  • Create detailed fabrication bend prints for each Sheetmetal project component.
  • Create and track design changes on existing products, Control of Bill of Materials (BoM), CAD Models and Engineering drawings.
  • Advise purchasing as necessary for ordering specialized or project specific components.
  • Use specification configuration software to create new product feature descriptions and accurate Bill of materials.
  • Create assembly instructions and renderings as requested by manufacturing to aid assembly tasks.
  • Perform weight and balance estimates for sales team as requested and for specific range of apparatus prior to contract.
  • Evaluate current designs for product and cost improvement opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) preferred. Candidates with a 2-year technical degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Design and Drafting will be considered.
  • Two (2) or more years experience in mechanical design designing with sheet metal components. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience with heavy truck, agriculture, automotive or heavy construction product design
  • Knowledge of and experience in CREO Parametric (or similar 3D modelling program)
  • Must be articulate, self-assured, and personable with a commitment to excellence
  • Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Previous project management skills with proven ability to plan and handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
