County of Orangeburg is Hiring a TRANSIT DRIVER Near Orangeburg, SC

The purpose of this job is to transport passenger to locations throughout Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties.
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays to be able to transport veterans to the William Jennings Bryan Dorn V. A. Center in Columbia SC, when called upon. On Thursdays to be able to transport veterans to Ralph H. Johnson V. A. Center in Charleston SC, when called upon.
Operate vehicles in according to SCDOT driving laws and other vehicles safety requirements. Insure safe and orderly transportation of passengers, maintain vehicle safety, and assists in preventative maintenance procedures. Maintain/provide accurate and timely reports.
This position works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
  • Transport passengers safely from pick-up location to designation.
  • Safely loading and unloading of passengers on vehicles.
  • Providing door-to-door service.
  • Securement of wheelchairs, scooters, and walkers.
  • Communicating with your passengers and dispatch.
  • Clean buses, as necessary.
  • Fuel buses
  • Collects correct fares and accounts for money at end of each shift.
  • Obtains passengers signatures when required.
  • Use Ecolane tablets to log trips and record pickups and drop-off times.
  • Complete pre-trip and post trip inspections of vehicles before and after shift.
  • Operate agency vehicles safely and obey all SCDOT traffic laws.
  • Pick up and drop off passengers on time in providing door-to-door services.
  • Assist passengers on vehicle and securement of all wheelchairs, scooters and walkers.
  • Maintain contact with agency staff, dispatch, and passengers at all times by mobile phone.
  • Attend all staff meeting.
  • Must be available to work flexible work hours including early morning, nights and during inclement weather.
  • Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Must be at least 25 years old.
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
Must successfully complete and receive certification in First Aid/CPR
Must successfully pass Defensive Driving Passenger Assistance and other required certifications and training.
Requires one (1) year of customer service or driving experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, breath alcohol test and SCDOT physical.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal back check.
  • Must possess and maintain a clean driving history as defined by risk management.
Reasoning Ability, Math & Language Skills:
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
