GENERAL SUMMARY
This position will maintain resident medical records, and assist with scheduling of appointments. The position is responsible for collection of blood by venipuncture, skin puncture, or venipuncture/capillary puncture as needed from residents.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Knowledge of medical practice and care
· Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures
· Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments
· Ability to take and enter vital signs into Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
· Performs selected clinical and administrative duties, and assists physicians and providers as part of the clinical care team.
· Conducts pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient charts prior to appointment with recent medications changes and/or test results.
· Prepares patients for examination and treatment by escorting them from the waiting area to the exam room and obtaining urinalysis and vital signs. Documents all information into EMR.
· Performs phlebotomy by obtaining blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
· Processes and prepares labs for pickup; tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed. Maintains scheduled lab appointments and lab results for residents. Administers injections.
· Assists with EKG’s, office procedures as needed; and provides other patient care services as directed by the physicians and practice protocols.
· Performs triage for patient calls for urgent appointments or interventions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Ability to take vital signs
· Ability to perform and read urine test trips
· Ability to interpret lab results to report to physician
· Ability to use various type of equipment for examination and treatment procedures
· Rooming patients, patient intake, vitals, and medication reconciliation; data entry into ECW medical record
· Assist physician and physician assistant in exam rooms as needed
· Administering intramuscular injections
· Drawing up injections for physicians as needed
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· Must have a valid and current Medical Assistant Certification
· Must be certified in phlebotomy and have experience in E.H.R. such as PCC and/or training as medical assistant
