Cedar Poles LLC is Hiring a Yard Laborer (Outdoor work) Near Oldtown, ID

JOB DESCRIPTION: Yard Laborer

REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor/Manager

JOBS SUPERVISED: None

SHIFT: 8 hr shift -overtime when needed, not to exceed 12 hours in a day.

Start time varies depending on daylight hours(Usually between 6:00am and 7:00am)

JOB PURPOSE:

Yard Laborers are responsible for accurately determining the class and length of utility poles, and inspecting them to ANSI or customer standards. In addition, Yard Laborers are also responsible for manually drilling, removing excess bark and trimming poles. The Yard Laborer is also available to assist the other employees with any physical tasks associated with the operation of the pole yard and filling orders as determined by the supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Measuring poles, piles, posts, etc. for compliance with ANSI classing standards for the best value to the company.
  • Marking and identifying products properly.
  • Properly identify any material defects, limited or prohibited, and apply the proper grading rules per ANSI
  • Shaving with a drawknife or other tools, any areas missed by the mechanical shaver, and problem spots to repair poles and other products to meet standards & specifications.
  • Trimming poles to size using a chainsaw.
  • Adhering to all company policies, including the use of PPE and other safety measures.
  • Moving & operating shaving truck to ensure continual productivity
  • Assisting with all clean-up duties
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions; will be working outside.

  • Must be able to work as a team, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, follow work rules, and take on other duties as assigned.
  • Have the willingness and ability to cross train into other areas, example: Operate a front end loader safely and efficiently (loading trucks and rail), operate a forklift; learn other processes, such as, Peeler operation and other yard duties.
  • Ability to take initiative and work with co-workers to accomplish defined goals in a fast paced environment.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and high level of performance.
  • Positively interact with customers and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Pursues training and development opportunities.
  • Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms and is required to walk, stand, hear, and to use hands. The employee may lift and/or move 50 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by the job include peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment characteristics are best defined as exposure to elements such as heat, cold, precipitation or toxic fumes. Employee will have steady exposure to noise as heard in a piece of mobile heavy equipment; at times noise levels will exceed safe working levels.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $21.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 52 per week
