Harding Charter Preparatory High School is Hiring a High School Counselor Near Oklahoma, OK

District Description Harding Independence Charter District (HICD) is a free, public charter district in north Oklahoma City. HICD schools have five core elements that define their programs and operations. We are college prep institutions, meaning that our graduates are prepared for the rigors and responsibilities of post-secondary life. We provide students with a rigorous teaching and learning environment, as well as the comprehensive support that will help them be successful while they are with us. We have strong community partnerships, and parent engagement is at the core of our success. And finally, we pride ourselves on our ethical and financially sustainable operating principles that will ensure we can continue serving students for many years. Position Description Harding Charter Preparatory High School is currently accepting applications for school counselors for the 2024-2025 school year. In our schools, counselors align their practice to the ASCA (the American School Counselors Association) School Counselor Professional Standards and Competencies. Our school counselors believe that every student can learn, and every student can succeed; every student should have access to and opportunity for a high-quality education; every student should graduate from HCP prepared for rigorous high school opportunities; every student should have access to a school counseling program; that effective school counseling is a collaborative process involving school counselors, students, families, teachers, staff and education stakeholders; that school counselors are leaders in the school, district, state, and nation; and that school counseling programs promote and enhance student academic, career, and social/emotional outcomes. HICD counselors have a strong professional foundation, provide direct and indirect services to students, and plan and assess the school’s comprehensive counseling program. We are seeking individuals who are committed leaders among the HICD staff. Please see the list on page two for a list of essential responsibilities. Salary: Go to https://hardingprep-my.sharepoint.com/:x:/g/personal/sstefanick_hicd_org/EZ-P53j4T2NGmfAm3IpGYr0BdzNqhou-8gNKX6jfGRh3BQ?e=DDPfqSApply: Please apply online at bit.ly/TeachforHICD Start Date: August 5, 2024 School Counselor Responsibilities Professional Foundation *Apply developmental, learning, counseling and educational theories to practice *Demonstrate understanding of educational systems, legal issues, policies, research and trends in education *Apply legal and ethical principles of the school counseling profession *Apply school counseling professional standards and competencies *Use ASCA Student Standards: Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success to inform the implementation of a school counseling program *Demonstrate understanding of the impact of cultural, social and environmental influences on student success and opportunities *Demonstrate leadership through the development and implementation of a school counseling program *Create systemic change through the implementation of a school counseling program Direct and Indirect Student Services *Design and implement instruction aligned to ASCA Student Standards: Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success in large-group, classroom, small-group, and individual settings *Provide appraisal and advisement in large-group, classroom, small-group and individual settings *Provide short-term counseling in small-group and individual settings *Make referrals to appropriate school and community resources *Consult to support student achievement and success *Collaborate with families, teachers, administrators, other school staff and education stakeholders for student achievement and success Planning and Assessment *Create school counseling program beliefs, vision and mission statements aligned with the school and district *Identify gaps in achievement, attendance, discipline, opportunity and resources *Develop annual student outcome goals based on student data *Develop and implement action plans aligned with annual student outcome goals and student data *Assess and report program results to the school community *Use time appropriately according to national recommendations and student/school data *Establish agreement with the principal and other administrators about the school counseling program *Establish and convene an advisory council for the school counseling program *Use appropriate school counselor performance appraisal process Other duties as assigned
