Nyack's Little House of Explorers is Hiring a Pre-K Assistant Teacher Near Nyack, NY

About Us:

Nyack’s Little House of Explorers is looking to hire creative-minded assistant teachers to join our team and explore the great outdoors with young children. We are a progressive preschool program serving up to 18 children ages three to five. Our beautiful schoolhouse is located in Nyack, New York and is open Monday-Friday. Regular school hours are 8:30am-3:30pm. Late pickup hours extend until 5:30pm.

*Hiring for a July 22nd start.

We are looking for multiple candidates to cover our daily schedule of 8:00-5:45. Morning and afternoon shifts may be flexible. Examples of possible shifts include:

  • Part time (2-5 days): 8:00-1:00, 12:30-5:45
  • Full time (5 days): 8:00-4:00

Responsibilities:

  • Support children during daily routines and transitions
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play
  • Support the program director/head teacher in developing curriculum based on the interests of the children
  • Form meaningful and trusting partnerships with families
  • Clean and maintain a safe space for children (putting away toys, wiping down surfaces, sweeping, washing dishes, cleaning bathroom, etc.)
  • Preparing daily snacks
  • Demonstrate respect towards children by using appropriate language and getting down on a child’s level when speaking
  • Attend team meetings with the head teacher
  • Participate in ongoing staff development and/or state-required training hours
  • Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with others
  • Assist with taking and selecting photographs of daily activities and creating family-facing updates and newsletters.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, Psychology or related field OR proof of current enrollment in a Bachelor's, Associate's or CDA Credentialing Program
  • Candidates with a High School Diploma will be considered if they have substantial relevant experience with young children
  • Prior experience working in an early childhood setting or with young children
  • Must love the outdoors and engaging in nature with children in all seasons
  • Candidates must agree to background checks and fingerprinting, and provide a medical statement from a physician as a condition of employment.
  • Must already be CPR/First Aid certified or willing to become certified after being hired.
  • Must already have completed Foundations in Health and Safety training (online) or be willing to complete it after being hired.
  • Must already have completed Mandated Reporting training (online) or be willing to complete it after being hired.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of and experience with vegetable gardening
  • Knowledge of and experience caring for chickens
  • Advanced or native fluency in a language other than English

Special consideration will be given to college or graduate students looking for hands-on experience in the field of early childhood education, retired teachers, and experienced nannies.
