About the Michigan State Fair
The Michigan State Fair, LLC, is devoted to the ongoing development and support of agriculture, business entrepreneurship, and family entertainment, while preserving the legacy and beloved traditions of the original State Fair. This privately produced event carries forward all of the positive aspects of past Fairs, including substantial positive economic impact, with major charitable and community benefits, all with no burden to the taxpayer.
Interns will work closely with the Vendor Manager and Operations Coordinator to plan and execute several aspects of the Fair including individual event projects. Additionally, interns gain hands-on experience with and knowledge of the inner workings of Michigan’s largest privately owned and operated exposition, conference, and banquet center, and have the opportunity to work with and shadow other Event Professionals. This is an unpaid position with potential for a bonus upon completion.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in creating engaging content for various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc
- Stay up-to-date with social media trends, tools, and best practices to suggest new ideas and strategies
- Monitor conversations on social media platforms related to the Michigan State Fair
- Assist in setting up and monitoring social media advertising campaigns
- Help maintain a content calendar to ensure consistent posting and alignment with marketing goals
- Assist coworkers with additional projects relating to the Michigan State Fair
- Create and update signage, graphics and media, forms, and surveys
- Administrative tasks such as preparing mailings, managing spreadsheets, and answering the dedicated Fair phone line
- Assist with vendor move-in and overall Fair operations
Qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft office and G-Suite
- Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Experience with Canva preferred
- Live in the Metro-Detroit area and have reliable transportation
- Available some nights and weekends
- Sophomore-, Junior-, or Senior-Level college student
The Michigan State Fair takes place Labor Day weekend and interns are required to work August 26 - September 3, 2024.
