Mechanical Estimator

We are a Boston-based general contractor that self performs the mechanical, looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our team. Our company roots go back to the early 1900s, and our current management has been successful and growing for almost 40 years. We have a very strong team that works well with all personalities. Our projects are located around the Boston area, so reliable transportation is imperative.

Responsibilities

· Assist Estimating Department with various estimating duties such as searching for bidding opportunities on various bid sourcing platforms and sources, reviewing potential project drawings, specifications, and job narratives to assist in seeing if VDC will bid the project.

· Assist with other estimating activities such as attending walk throughs, delivering bids, and making calls to subs.

· Assist with keeping estimates on schedule / pace with regards to meeting deadlines for walk throughs and actual submission of the bid, whether it is an upload electronically or hand delivery.

· Assisting the general contracting division in assembling bid packages.

· Keeping good organization of your work product so that collaboration can easily occur during the bid process. This would include electronic files or documents and paper drawings, specs, etc.

· Follow VDC’s procedures for bidding work with regards to downloading documents, saving work product on the public network, utilizing VDC’s online bidding programs to distribute job information to subs for bid purposes and keeping open communication with the entire estimating department.

· Assist with subcontractor negotiating after successful project award. Assist with budget sheet for project management after a successful project award. Assist at project turnover meeting to project management.

· Provide Piping and Equipment takeoffs using estimating software. Experience with Fast Pipe estimating software is helpful.

· Create a bid package to send to subs and vendors and track bid lists for multiple projects.

· Work with both the ownership and the Vice President of the company to put together the final Bid Day number for submission.

· Track upcoming bids and assist in project pre-qualification process.

· All other usual duties performed by an Estimator for companies which provide similar services as VDC or as otherwise requested by VDC from time to time.

Our ideal candidate would have

· Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Estimator

· Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience

· Valid Massachusetts driver’s license

· In depth knowledge of construction process

· Excellent written and oral communication skills

· Experience with Procore, Bluebeam and FastPipe

· Proficient with Microsoft products

Salary - $115,000-130,000
