Certified Veterinary Technician Duties & Responsibilities:

• Gathering information from pet owners about their pet’s condition
• Performing physical exams
• Caring for hospitalized pets
• Collecting diagnostic samples (i.e., urine, blood, feces, ear swabs, and skin scrapings)
• Performing laboratory procedures
• Preparing pets, instruments, and equipment for surgery
• Placing intravenous (IV) catheters
• Assisting with surgical procedures
• Performing professional dental cleanings
• Monitoring anesthetized animals
• Cleaning and sterilizing surgical equipment and instruments
• Taking X-rays
• Educating pet owners
• Administrative tasks such as scheduling, updating patient charts, and processing payments, greeting clients, answering phone calls, and handling email correspondence.

Physical Requirements:

• Dependable attendance is required.
• Any allergies to animals must be controllable through medication.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• This position requires the ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach constantly during an 8-hour day.
• Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognize people, and understand written directions.
• Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give information in person and over the telephone.
• Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing office equipment such as computers, telephones, copiers, etc.

Details:

• Full-time position working Monday through Saturday.
• Starting pay at $22 an hour and is commensurate with experience.
