Lead workers maintain progress reports, evaluate team members' performances and discuss project goals, accomplishments and shortcomings with management.

Primary Duties

• Learn relevant local and company requirements, rules and procedures. Strictly follows rules and guidelines and always uses the right procedure for the job. Promptly reports incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions or processes. SKNA employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.
• Ensure the efficient production of quality corrugated sheets with minimum waste
• Maintain established quality standards, machine efficiencies, and production levels
• Communicate established quality standards, machine efficiencies, and production levels to subordinates
• Train newly assigned employees and provide continuous training for each member of the corrugator crew
• Ensure the performance and documentation of quality control checks
• Ensure that necessary reports are prepared in an accurate and timely manner
• Maintain adequate supplies of materials (i.e. tape, starch, strapping) necessary to perform production duties
• Coordinate with supervision and maintenance on any necessary repairs or preventive maintenance and document with work orders
• Know proper operating procedures for each position in the Corrugator, including starch formulation and treatment of waste water
• Establish high morale among subordinates by displaying fairness, consistency, and interest in employee problems
• Treat subordinates with respect
• Support and administer Smurfit Kappa's policies, procedures, and rules
• Support and administer safety policies and procedures
• Maintain a clean and organized department
• Process all reports completely, accurately, and in a timely manner
• Provide training as necessary
• Improve managerial skills by enrolling and attending seminars and technical courses
• Communicate with appropriate supervisory personnel to avoid confusion or problems at shift changes
• Arrive at work at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled start of shift
• Use proper lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending techniques
• Perform each task in a manner which prevents bodily injury, equipment, and product damage
• Observe all safety and health guidelines
• May be assigned to other projects and duties

Job Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Must be able to speak, read, and comprehend English
• Must be able to write legibly in English
• Able to lift 25-50 lbs. on a consistent basis
• Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy
• Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters
• Must have a working telephone number on record with Human Resources, Corrugator Superintendent, and Production Manager at all times
• Must be a self-starter to the effect he/she must initiate and then follow through to completion of assigned tasks
• Must be a qualified Corrugator Operator or Corrugator Slitter Operator
• Prior work experience in the corrugated industry, preferred
• 6 months' experience as a Corrugator Operator or Corrugator Slitter Operator, preferred
• Supervisory experience as a proven manager/leadman of at least 5 people, preferred
