The purpose of this position is to ensure that public and private facilities are in compliance with environmental and consumer health laws. This is accomplished by inspecting food service establishments, child care facilities, public spas and swimming pools, mobile food units, and waste haulers, ensuring proper food temperatures and use of chemicals, consulting with management and business owners on applicable laws, issuing citations when appropriate, providing information on health and safety issues, investigating complaints and possible health hazards, and instructing courses on proper food handling, child care, and pool safety. Other duties include assistance with mosquito trapping and submission to Tarrant County Public Health, maintaining reports and databases of inspections, generating reports of investigations, assisting in the planning and developing of department programs, interacting with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

The city offers vacation and sick leave, as well as ten paid holidays. Full time employees earn two weeks of vacation during their first year of employment and 10 hours of sick leave a month.
