Facilities Manager
Dearborn Academy
12 month, Full time position, Hours 7am-3pm
Start date: July 1, 2024 with the hope for ~five days to be scheduled in June for overlap with retiring Facilities Manager
The Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing all areas of maintenance and repair of the building systems of the school including: cleaning; routine and emergency maintenance of all mechanical systems and equipment and interior and exterior of the building and property; building code compliance; purchasing supplies; and all related work as needed. Supervised by the Dearborn Academy Head of School and responsible for coordinating services with the landlord, contracted workers and licensing representatives from the city and state.
Responsibilities include:
● Perform and/or oversee in-house maintenance and repair work including
carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
● When appropriate, solicit and supervise outside contractors.
● Take a lead role in keeping the buildings and grounds safe.
● Ensure that the building and grounds are very clean.*
● Develop preventive maintenance schedules and maintain building, furniture
and equipment in good working condition.
● Work with the Vocational Coordinator to support shop safety
improvements/needs.
● Act as main contact for the contracted cleaning company.
● Support set up and take down for school events.
● With the rest of the team, make students and families feel welcome at the
school.
● With the Head of School, communicate needs to the landlord and work to
maintain a positive relationship with the other tenants on campus.
● With the Head of School, occasionally respond to off-hours emergencies.
● Other duties as assigned.
*The grounds are maintained by the landlord and the Facilities Manager’s
responsibility is to conduct a daily review and clean up as needed. The
building is cleaned nightly by an outside company and does require regular
review and upkeep by the Facilities Manager during the school day.
Requirements
● High school diploma. Certificate in facilities management preferred
● Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and/or OSHA certification preferred
● Five years experience with plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and general
maintenance work preferred
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively
● Demonstrated familiarity with email, Google docs, basic record keeping
