Dearborn Academy is Hiring a Clinician Near Newton, MA

Dearborn AcademyJob Posting for ClinicianStart date: July 1, 2024 or August 23, 2024 Dearborn Academy, one of New England’s leading 766-approved therapeutic day schools, is seeking a full-time Clinician for the start of the 2024-2025 school year, with the option of starting during our summer program. Dearborn enrolls ~55 in Grades 3-12 who have specific learning disabilities and/or mild to moderate emotional challenges. Our rich academic program, diversified student supports and explicit instruction, combined with our strong clinical component, enables students who have been unsuccessful in previous school settings to set and meet bold goals. Clinicians work closely with the Principal, an LICSW, to develop goals and interventions that support students to learn the necessary skills to become engaged members of their community and when indicated, return to lesser restrictive academic settings. Clinicians have a critical role as lead members of the team in creating a trauma-sensitive school where students feel secure in learning from their successes and their mistakes. Dearborn seeks candidates with experience in culturally-responsive approaches and practices. The successful candidate for this challenging and rewarding position will have the following qualities and experience:Demonstrated compassion and kindness towards students, families and staffBelief that students who demonstrate unexpected behaviors have gaps in their skills, with a drive to identify these gaps and then teach to the skill areas to address these gapsProven ability to form relationships with families, state agency representatives and public school district liaisons in order to create integrated student support teamsBelief that suspension is a last resort, with interest/experience in restorative justice practicesStrong and effective written and oral communication, meeting facilitation and decision-making skillsBe a self-starter with a collaborative style who values a community of highly-engaged team membersDemonstrated ability to observe therapeutic interventions and provide objective feedback and skill development for team membersExperience using data to help inform and shape teaching and therapeutic interventions Responsibilities:Deliver individual counseling to support students social and emotional health and well-beingDeliver individual college and/or career counseling sessions to support students in establishing postsecondary plans and transition skillsProvide support in designing and implementing college and career classes with other guidance counselors and clinicians Complete family and developmental histories; conduct observations and assigned formal and informal psycho-social evaluations Maintain communication with teachers, caregivers and outside providers regarding the social-emotional needs and functioning of studentsAssist students in transferring their skills from counseling sessions to the larger school community by observing, coaching and supporting them in classes and the milieuHelp teachers and others understand the impact of socio-cultural factors as they pertain to student performance in school to maximize student learning Provide stewardship around the planning and implementation of schoolwide SEL programs and other pro-social, community-building activitiesWork collaboratively with other school professionals to analyze data, determine effective interventions, and monitor the effectiveness of such interventionsMake referrals, coordinate and maintain outreach to caregivers and outside agencies to address mental health needsIn collaboration with school professionals and administrators, intervene during crisis situations and make appropriate referralsPrepare reports and written communications as necessary, including IEP goals, progress reports and annual review reportsWork with administration to inform staff of mandated reporting law and facilitate 51A filing Actively participate in IEP meetings and other student services meetingsActively participate in program, departmental and school-wide trainings, meetings and activities Provide training and conduct teacher and/or caregiver groups as appropriate Other duties as assigned by principal and head of school Qualifications:Masters degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related fieldLICSW/LMHC or license-eligible strongly preferredExperience in a school environment preferredExcellent relational skills and a strong capacity to relate to students and caregivers Start date: July 1, 2024 (summer start) or August 23, 2024 (fall start) Dearborn provides a supportive team environment with a competitive wage/benefit program.
