Duties
  • You will serve as the technical authority for electrical/electronics systems and you will be independently responsible for extensive review/coordination of, research into, and resolution of the changes and problem areas of assigned ships.
  • You will act as the electrical/electronics waterfront project manager for assigned ships.
  • You will assist the Project Officer by providing information pertinent to the rapid resolution of problems affecting orderly, economical completion of ship construction or Post Shakedown Availabilities.
  • You will review contracts for work assigned.
  • You will serve as the SUPSHIPNN point of contact for resolution of deficiencies with contractor representatives in accordance with applicable contract provisions.
  • You will be responsible for requiring the coordination, management and review of contract requirements, problems with compatibility of equipment in systems or areas requiring special coordination activity, and establish required interfaces.
  • You will receive and review inspection reports from contractor personnel.
  • You will initiate and authorize specifications for growth/new work in conjunction with Proposal Evaluation Department personnel, and ensure all such specifications are technically and contractually correct.
  • You will review specifications, engineering drawings, government furnished material and engineering support schedules, and coordinate their review by cognizant line department personnel.
  • You will process complex and varied changes which affect the ultimate configuration and delivery dates of ships.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring authorized work has been accomplished, including trial items, post delivery deficiencies, and guaranty items.

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
QualificationsYour resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector monitoring contractor performance or activities to ensure compliance with established schedules, requirements, or production control milestones for the design, development, construction, maintenance, repair, or modernization of shipboard systems on submarines or surface ships.Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website:
