The Consultant Medical Director/Physician agrees to the provision and/or documentation in the clinical record as well as the CURA, Inc., Enhanced Services- Medical/Co-Occuring Services billing form of a complete medical examination within 72 hours of admission; ordering, interpreting, and/or documenting, drug screening as appropriate. Ordering, interpereting and documenting multiple screening tests; documenting all orders for services to be provided to the patients; assuring that all medical interventions are documented in the clinical record; assuring medical follow-up of all acute or chronic illness and conditions is entered in the patient's treatment plan, referrals are completed during the patient's stay in treatment plan, referrals are completed during the patient's stay in treatment or as part of the discharge plan. The Consulting Medical Director/Physician will assure the direction, provision, and quality of medical services provided to all clients according to DMHAS requirements, and New Jersey State Licensure Standards.

In the role of Medical Director, the consultant is required to be onsire as often as necesary in order to perform the responsibilies of the position. At minimum the Medical Director will be onsite in Newark and/or Secaucus twenty (20) hours per week and available by cell phone/telephone, pager, or other means at all other times; additional billing will be allowed for telephone calls/consults. The Consultant Medical Director is responsible for the direction, provision and quality of medical services provided to clients including, but not limited to:

  • providing administrative oversight of the facility's medical services to include regular modes of comunication within the Medical Department to promote continuity as well as cohesive eg. Staff meeting, Verbal, Technological or Other.
  • Assisting the administrator of the facility in the development and maintenance of written objectives, policies, procedure manual, orginization plan and quality assurance program for medical services; review of all medical polocies and procedures at least annually. Such documentation shall be shared with the facility's physician(s), the director of nursing services and other appropriate medical staff on an ongiong basis, or as revisions are made;
  • In conjunction with the administrator and the governing authority of the substance use disorders treatment facility, planning and budgeting for medical services;
  • Ensuring that medical services are coordinated and integrated with other client care services to ensure continuity of care for each client e.g. Ensure regular participation by medical staff in multidisciplinary, meetings, effective and efficient scheduling or consulting service provision for Newark Residential and Newark Outpatient, effective & efficient billing process for billable services to: DC, MAP SPB, MAT], DUI], SJJ, NJSJ, DAS-WSA clients; medical record integration with clinical electronic health record (EHR) at mini111111npsychiatric evaluation/notes, mental health clinician notes to ZooBooks;
  • Ensuring that the facility complies with required medical staffing patterns set forth in this chapter;
  • Assisting the HR AOffice in the development of written job descriptions for the medical staff, reviewing of credentials, participating in hiring medical as well as general staff, delineating privileges of medical staff and assigning duties of the medical staff;
  • Participating in staff orientation and staff education activities when applicable;
  • Approving the content and location of emergency kits or carts; medications, including controlled substances, use of over-the-counter floor stock medications maintained on a list at the facility; and the amounts that may be and are stored throughout the facility, equipment and supplies, the expiration dates of medically related time-sensative items, the frequency with which these items are reviewed for the appropriateness and completeness and assigning qualified staff to perform these reviews;
  • Reviewing any physical examination reports and medical screening results conducted off-site of a client for the readmissions process or for other medical concerns, as well as final approval recomendation whether to admit client/referral to facility, in order to ensure that the client's medical needs are considered and addressed in the development of the treatment plan and throughout treatment.
  • Providing supervision of the facility's physician(s) director of nursing, advance practice nursing provisions, licensed mental health clinician to include but not limited to: (Consulting Psychiatrist, LCSW, APN's, Pharmacist, etc.
