POSITION: Health Educator
SALARY: $27.85-$31.35, per hour DOE
REPORTS TO: HHS Director
LOCATION: HHS Tribal Health ; Nespelem, Washington
Basic Functions: Health education services will provide health promotion and disease prevention education intended to improve the quality of life and to increase the healthy life span of tribal members through a public health delivery approach in providing public awareness, education, training on intervention, prevention, and treatment for individual , community and/or group of the Colville Indian Reservation population on public health issues including but not limited to tobacco use, second hand smoke, tobacco cessation, heart disease, diabetes, etc. The Health Educator will be the lead on developing, reviewing and implementing the Tribal Health Plan working closely with the Program Manager and Tribal Health Staff.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
  • Requires Bachelor's degree in Social Work, or related Health / Human Services, Nutrition or physical education field; AND (24) Months of paid successful work experience in community health, community wellness, mentoring, nutrition, or recreation/fitness industry reflecting the ability to perform the responsibilities of the job requirements.
  • This position requires a current State driver's license. Post hiring certification for Clinical Laboratory Improvement (CLI) Amendment Certification waiver must be completed within (6) months of hiring.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Requires the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Requires the ability to function primarily indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature.
  • Requires sufficient ambulatory ability to move about to office and remote locations.
  • Requires auditory ability to carry on audience, ordinary, and telephonic conversation.
  • Requires near and far visual acuity to read detailed maps, drawings, other printed material, computer screens, and observe physical layouts.
  • Requires manual and finger dexterity to write and to operate microcomputers and other office equipment.
  • Requires the ability to alternatively sit and stand for sustained periods of time to deliver presentations, perform counter work.
  • Requires the ability to collect measurement (height, weight, hip and waist circumference, blood pressure, random blood glucose, etc. and administer questionnaires.
  • Requires the ability to develop, implements, and evaluate preventative health education activities and events.
  • Requires the ability to collect participant data, interprets screening data, interpret diet and activity logs, transcribe information onto data collection forms and submit reports in a timely manner.
  • Requires the ability to participant in recruitment activities and lifestyle session that may require working in other districts.
  • Requires the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy of gaining cooperation of other. This includes the ability to establish working relationships with service unity staff, tribal health, county, and state officials. This also includes the ability to establish positive clear and concise communication.
  • Requires the ability to communicate in writing this including the ability to express oneself in writing for variety of purposed (e.g. Correspondence, reports, and instructional materials).
  • Requires the ability to plan and accomplish work assignments this including the ability to produce in timely manner work projects of a high quality through the effective scheduling and prioritizing of multiple tasks.
  • Requires the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Requires knowledge to be able to implement an expert to novice shits for needs assessment and other collaborative purposes.
  • Requires knowledge of Clinical experience of Indian Health Services (I.H.S).
  • Requires knowledge of Windows bases systems such as Microsoft office, word, excel, access.
  • Requires knowledge of group work among diverse audiences and learning styles for different age groups, gender, communities, and cultures.
  • Requires skill of being able to coordinate team meetings and planning session for health events, and activities.
  • Requires skill of being able to established at networking for health education and other professional consultation purposes.
  • Requires skill to do research of other health entities databases for example United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Indian Health Services (I.H.S.), Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) Child Nutrition Programs. Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP).
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.
TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.
If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and be eligible for the Tribes' Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
