Utility Staff - Operations Department
Immediate Opening
University School of Nashville seeks an addition staff member to join its well-established Utility Staff team. The Utility Staff ensures the campus building and grounds are well maintained, secure, and safe for all members of the USN community. Primary responsibilities include cleaning the buildings and grounds, assisting with set-ups and break-downs for events, checking the school grounds for trash and debris, serving as parking lot attendant, reporting hazardous situations or incidents, and other duties.
This full-time hourly position reports to the Director of Operations. A high school diploma and 2-3 years of building maintenance experience are preferred.
Responsibilities:
• Clean assigned areas of the buildings and grounds to the supervisor’s satisfaction, utilizing available cleaning tools including, but not limited to, cleaning chemicals, vacuum cleaners, leaf blowers, buffers, lawn mowers, etc.
• Assist with setups and break downs for events, as needed
• Assist with maintenance of the cafeteria, including trash collection, wiping tables, and sweeping food debris from around and under tables
• Lower American flag each morning by at dusk.
• Check and clean exterior door glass
• Check recycling bins daily, empty as needed
• Check perimeter of school outside, picking up trash on back field and clearing debris around steps and sidewalks
• Serve as parking lot attendant, as needed
• Report any hazardous situation and/or incidents to management
• Perform other duties as determined by the Evening Supervisor, Director of Operations and, in some cases, the Director
Qualifications and Experience:
• High School Diploma, preferred
• 2-3 years of previous building maintenance experience preferred
• Familiarity with the proper use of chemicals used in building maintenance
Skills and Abilities:
• Be prompt; report for the assigned shift on time and appropriately dressed
• Work collaboratively with all faculty and staff members
• Lift heavy objects, often exceeding 70 pounds
• Climb stairs frequently during a shift
• Communicate with co-workers and other members of the USN community
• Work in an active and often demanding environment in a variety of weather conditions
