Summary: The Assistant Preschool Teacher assists the classroom teacher in planning and maintaining a safe, clean, learning environment and in assuring the well-being and safety of the children in his/her care.

Purpose: The Assistant Preschool Teacher assists the teacher to implement a Christian-based program to teach young children. Together, the teacher and assistant teacher develop assessments for each child to determine the child’s strengths and goals. The Assistant Preschool Teacher plans with and assists the teacher in preparing materials and supplies in advance for daily activities.

Essential Functions:

1. Assists in the planning and preparation of the classroom program and setting to promote literacy and early education by meeting the physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs of the children in the program

2. Assists in the planning and implementation of safe and appropriate activities, both indoors and outdoors, for children

3. Speaks the English language with clarity and models appropriate use by assisting the teacher to integrate all language skills into each lesson: listening, speaking, and reading, writing (if age appropriate)

4. Reflects the Christian faith through action and attitude

5. Demonstrates a genuine nurturing, caring attitude to all children.

6. Maintains a calm attitude and a soft voice, and encourages this attitude and voice in others working in the classroom.

7. Maintains a cooperative attitude of working together with the teacher, volunteers, parents, and others in planning and implementing activities

8. Supervises children, helps to establish routines, and provides positive guidance and various experiences that incorporate songs, games, and storytelling

9. Supervises children during outside play

10. Works to maintain health and safety standards with snack, hand washing and toileting

11. Assists in clean-up and evaluation of children as requested

12. Keeps informed about plans, activities or conditions that may affect the learning of preschool children.

13. Treats all children, parents and preschool staff with dignity and respect, guarding each child’s right to privacy of person.

14. Observes children to detect signs of illness, injury, emotional disturbance, learning disorder, neglect or abuse and immediately report observations to classroom teacher and/or school director

15. Accompanies the class on all excursions outside the preschool.

16. Attends all preschool staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences.

Other Duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Knows and complies with preschool policies and procedures, especially emergency procedures

2. Works to fulfill the goals and purposes of the preschool

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Is at least 21 years of age

2. Is eligible to work in the United States

3. Attests to be person of faith with a desire to share the Gospel and serve God’s children

4. Has clear speech, a good command of English, and a willingness to listen to children

5. Is personally neat and clean in appearance

6. Shows evidence of freedom of TB

7. Possesses Current Basic First Aid certificate

8. Possesses CPR Training for Children certificate

9. Shows evidence of completion of a Blood Borne Pathogens Class

10. Has not committed or been convicted of child abuse or any crime involving physical or emotional harm to another person (compliance includes state and national background checks and Safe Haven Training every two years).

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
