JOB TITLE: Heavy Equipment Operator

OBJECTIVE: An experienced, reliable heavy equipment operator who drives or controls construction equipment, including bulldozers, forklifts, backhoes, dump trucks, skid steers, and snow moving equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operate heavy equipment in compliance with the company’s operating safety policies and procedures
  • Provide recommendations for maintaining and improving environmental performance
  • Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers
  • Loading and offloading rocks, debris, and other materials from heavy equipment
  • Dig foundations/footing, and trenches
  • Assist with snow removal when required
  • Ensure company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner
  • Complete required paperwork, reporting, and other documentation
  • Advising the Excavation Manager of necessary upgrades, repairs, and replacements
  • Excellent understanding of plans and specifications
  • Adhere to a strict project schedule working with the Excavation Manager
  • Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, and think critically
  • Other duties assigned

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent is required
  • Must have valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to and from the job site
  • CDL with experience operating heavy equipment i.e., excavator, front end loader, backhoe, dozer, skid steer, forklift, etc.
  • Must have a good understanding of earthmoving techniques 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications
  • Possess the ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Knowledge of all aspects of the construction process
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and teamwork and the ability to work independently
  • Must be flexible and possess the ability to change priorities and direction based on the need of a project
  • Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination

PREFERRED:

  • OSHA 30 certification or the ability to obtain one in 180 days
  • Knowledge with routine maintenance on assigned equipment
  • Associates Degree or higher in construction or business- related fields
  • CPR/First Aid certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical requirements of the position include being able to tolerate working outdoors year-round in all elements/weather, lifting, transporting, adjusting heavy objects and equipment 75-100 lbs., bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, reaching; working in confined spaces and open trenches.

WORK ENVIRONMENT : This position involves working in all climates on an active construction site. This role routinely is exposed to dust and noise associated with heavy equipment and power tools.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires regular in-state travel with the ability to work 40-50 hours per week Monday – Friday, with occasional hours outside of that range as business necessitates. This position may require overnight stay near job sites regularly and/or travel between multiple job sites in the same day.
