Position Summary:
Internal Audit and Advisory Services (IAAS) provides audit services to the Idaho State Board of Education and to the University of Idaho, Boise State University, Idaho State University, and Lewis Clark State College. IAAS conducts a variety of audit and advisory related audit engagements designed to proactively identify risks and to evaluate internal controls, with the ultimate goal to strengthen operations of Idaho Higher Education. To maintain independence, IAAS reports functionally to the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee of the Idaho State Board of Education and administratively to the Office of the State Board of Education (OSBE). IAAS auditors are assigned to one of four operating locations. These are the University of Idaho campus, the Idaho State University campus, the Boise State University Campus or the OSBE offices located at the state capitol.
The statewide structure of IAAS was implemented in 2021 and is part of a multi-year consolidation process. This process is expected to be completed by July 1, 2023. At that time, all IAAS auditors are anticipated to become employees of OSBE.
Reporting directly to a Systemwide Internal Audit Manager and /or the Chief Audit Executive, the Internal Auditor I performs various types of financial, compliance, operational, and technology audits. Audit projects may be performed on any campus within the Idaho Higher Education System. The Internal Auditor I will be physically located on the University of Idaho campus. Most auditor work will be performed remotely, with some occasional travel possible.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree with a major in accounting, finance, information systems, economics, or other similar business major.
  • Experience of IIA professional standards and/or AICPA Generally Accepted Audit Standards.
  • Experience of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience of the Committee of Sponsoring Organization (COSO) internal control integrated framework.
  • Experience of the Idaho State Board of Education and University policies and procedures.
  • Interpersonal skills to work successfully with employees at all levels within the IAAS department and State of Idaho Universities.
  • Proficiency and experience with computer applications such as Excel, Access, and Microsoft Word.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communications.
  • Experience to document and complete work in accordance with IIA professional standards.
  • Experience working individually or in a group.
  • Working in an environment that required maintaining confidentiality of information.
  • Prioritize assignments to complete work in a timely manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential or other relevant professional certification (or ability to attain certification upon hire).
  • Prior experience working in internal audit or higher education.
  • Experience of information technology controls.
  • Experience extracting and analyzing data from ERP systems.
