Salary Schedule: Related Service Provider (range $53,331 - $75,296 based on the 23/24 salary schedules, education and related experience)
Work Calendar: 182 days: August through end of May

District Summary:

MCSD is one of the largest rural school districts in Colorado, which means we are small enough to be neighborly, but still big enough to continue growing (with short commutes to school and work).

Summary of Position:
The job of the School Nurse is designed to be responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluation school health and wellness services within the District. This position requires an individual that is motivated, self-directed, and able to function independently under state and agency guidelines and policies. The Registered Nurse will work with both regular and special education students. Under direction, supervision of unlicensed personnel will be expected. This position will also be required to travel between school sites as situations dictate and to do other related work as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates and trains in the school district health, vision, and hearing screening programs.
  • Develop, revise, implement, and evaluate school health services, policies, and procedures.
  • Implement communicable disease control.
  • Direct, monitor, and evaluate employees assigned to the school health program when applicable.
  • Document, compile, and analyze data for required health reporting.
  • Identify and provide support to students with health care needs or assistance.
  • Train, delegate, supervise, and evaluate appropriate nursing tasks to unlicensed personnel.
  • Monitor and provide nursing consultation and expertise on individual health care plans, individualized education plans, and 504 plans with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Confers with, counsels, and advises personnel and parents concerning usual and unusual student health needs.
  • Serves as a liaison and works with community agencies in providing resources for students and families.
  • Performs individual health and public health assessments, nursing diagnoses, goal setting, implementing plans of care, and evaluation of outcomes in K-12 students.
  • Assists in substance abuse identification, prevention, appropriate referral, and care coordination among K-12 students.
  • Provides training and professional development to employees of Health Services.
  • Assists with implementation and development of activities of the school district wellness policy and/or other committees as a health liaison.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Certification:
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher (preferred)
  • Possession of an associate degree in Nursing (ADN) and successful completion of NCLEX with a minimum of 3 years' experience as a RN working with school-aged children
  • Possess a current Colorado Registered Nursing license
  • Eligible for a CDE Initial licensure upon hire and work towards Special Service Provider with School Nurse Endorsement
  • Current BLS-CPR/First Aid
Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 year clinical nursing experience (preferred)
  • Prefer a minimum 1 year of supervisory experience (preferred)
Knowledge of and Abilities:
  • Principles, goals, and objectives of a comprehensive health and wellness program
  • Methods, techniques, procedures, and strategies concerning the assessment and evaluation of student health services and programs
  • Legal mandates, policies, regulations, and operational procedures pertaining to a comprehensive health and wellness program
  • Social service and youth service agencies within the local community
  • Modern trends pertaining to student health and wellness services and programs
  • Communicate effectively both orally, written, and by technological means
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions/orders with minimal accountability controls
  • Basic understanding of multiple platforms for electronic documentation including our EMR, Google Drive, Trello, and Microsoft Suite
  • Establish and maintain effective organization, community, and public relationships
  • Bi-lingual - Spanish speaking (preferred)

  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 5 to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • This type of work involves sitting, walking, and/or standing for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
