Position Summary

Works and oversees the assigned claims queues and billing tasks, queries insurance claims, assists with patient billing questions, and corresponds with all responsible parties via email, portal, text, etc. to obtain and post monies owed in a timely manner.

Offers friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to all patients, through phone correspondence and in office, always exemplifying excellence in customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Identifies and resolves billing queries/problems.
• Codes the services provided utilizing CPT and ICD-10 coding as directed by the Certified Medical Coder and/or Billing Manager.
• Posts payments and applicable credits to accounts while ensuring that posted payments balance at the end of the day.
• Reviews and verifies refund requests for insurance overpayments.
• Prepares correspondence and communication with patients.
• Communicates with payees to answer questions and provide additional supporting documentation
• Prepares letters of appeal to insurance companies for refusal to pay contracted claims and/or denied claims; submits documentation necessary to support claims; resubmits claims with corrections if needed for payment for all insurance payers.
• Enters missing/incorrect data from charts to the claim.
• Answers phones and assists patients with accounts.
• Generates and submits electronic claims and statements at designated intervals; corrects any errors for complete and accurate transmission of data.
• Abides by state collection and credit regulations; understands and complies with state/federal regulations, laws, and guidelines.
• Performs additional duties including but not limited to recording payments, faxing information as required, identify the need for retroactive authorization requests, and verifying medical eligibility.
• Creates billing productivity spreadsheets as requested.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
