THE OPPORTUNITY This position works out of our St. Paul, MN location. The Systems Engineer II will support the systems verification sub-function by participating in investigation, analysis, and test execution/planning activities associated with the development of medical device systems for Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) R&D Division. We are looking for a high-caliber individual to support design, development, and test of EP systems for ablation, mapping, navigation, and recording applications including integration of catheters, hardware, and software. Work requires the application of theoretical principles and creative/analytical techniques typically acquired in a recognized four-year or more academic course of study. Applies engineering and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems. Exercises an appropriate level of technical judgment in planning, organizing, performing, and coordinating product development engineering assignments WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON Execute on-time completion of systems engineering/verification deliverables. Development of test equipment/fixtures/methods along with required validations. Provide verification/validation perspective during product development lifecycle: defect reviews, field complaint investigations, product/test designs, requirements analysis, user workflows. Problem documentation and resolution; resolves and/or facilitates the resolution of problems including identification of root cause. Core team representation/support for systems verification sub-function related to new product development and/or sustaining engineering projects. Follow systems engineering process flows to integrate hardware, software, and system changes/updates while conducting system and subsystem integration activities. Support development and analysis of system architectures, requirements, and specifications. Participate in concepts of operation reviews and updates to meet end user needs. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while coordinating across multiple engineering discipline teams. Maintain standards for content completion, integrity, and regulatory/standards compliance. Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by functional management based on the current project/business objectives including 10% travel, including international travel, and regular predictable typically on-site attendance (limited virtual work). EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or Systems Engineering. 2 years of professional engineering experience, preferably systems test design experience. Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally. Ability to maintain regular and predictable typically on-site attendance (limited virtual work). Preferred Qualifications Systems Engineering/Verification and Validation experience. Current industry knowledge of electrophysiology and/or cardiac rhythm management products. Experience with robotics, control systems, and/or motor controllers. Experience with automated testing, LabVIEW, Squish, Studio 5000 PLC Ladder Logic. Experience with ECAD/MCAD Altium/Solidworks and general EE/ME design/skills. Experience with COMSOL, modeling/simulation, MATLAB, Minitab, data analysis. Experience with C , C#, Linux, Perforce, Python, VBA, Windchill programming/utilization. Broad technical knowledge; expertise in one or more relevant specialties. Project management experience and/or team leadership experience. Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects. Organized, on-time, and detailed project management skills. Multitasks, prioritizes, and meets deadlines in timely manner. Energized attitude, proactive thinker, and self-starter. Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail. Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment. Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model. Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization. Demonstrates progressively more responsibility throughout job experience. FDA regulated industry experience. Advanced (Masters) degree.
