PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITY:

The WIOA Career Coach will be responsible for completing intakes on new WIOA referrals to determine eligibility and suitability for training, Essential Work Skills, Academic Center, workshops and other WIOA resources. The WIOA Career Coach will also work with groups of job seekers by providing them job lead assistance, resume assistance, and interview assistance to increase employability of job seekers. WIOA Career Coaches must work to meet all goals and benchmarks established by the MWA for their individual caseload. Career Coaches will be evaluated on their performance and held accountable for the meeting of established goals on their assigned caseload.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Attend and conduct WIOA Career Success Strategies Seminars (CSS) as assigned.
• Assist participants to understand all services and options available in the Michigan Works Administration.
• Will keep all customers in the WIOA program engaged in WIOA Services.
• Coordinate all follow-up services, job search classes, intensive case management, supportive services and/or training services.
• Gather all necessary documentation to verify hours in each activity, including pay stubs or written employer statements, class and community service attendance records, job search logs and daily attendance sheets, etc.
• Approve training for participants only at State approved educational and training providers for training approved by the local Workforce Development Board.
• Assure that all applicants certify that they received a written statement explaining services and summary of the Michigan Works Administration’s grievance and complaint procedure, MWA EO policy, Discrimination policy and Release of Information.
• Determine eligibility for, document and schedule supportive services, as needed and will monitor to ensure that as problems arise, needs are adequately met.
• Monitor all required reports, review for accuracy, and complete indicated case actions.
• Update the MIS with the appropriate case note entries after each contact with the participant.
• Refer to other partners those participants who are in need of services that cannot be provided under the program.
• Attend required MWA trainings.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Meet with SVRC administrators for program updates.
• Copy and file materials as needed.
• Attend workshops, meetings and seminars as directed.
• Assist other program staff and/or the Director as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree, a concentration in human services is preferred.
• In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree an Associates Degree with five years experience in case management or related work experience. Documented experience handling an employment related caseload would be considered with preferred experience being a history of working with Michigan Works Administration programs.
• Preferred background would include a demonstrated ability to handle and motivate the public effectively.
• Proper phone usage and good communications skills, both written and oral, are also necessary.
• Must have the ability to prioritize and organize to meet goals and deadlines.
• Must be able to meet the travel demand of the job
