Part Time - 0.7 FTEJob DescriptionTitle:Physical Education TeacherReports To: PrincipalEvaluated By: PrincipalJob Summary: Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develops talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.Qualifications:Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Physical EducationMassachusetts Physical Education Certification with the Department of Elementary and Secondary EducationPedagogical knowledge and skills in physical educationExperience working with large groups of elementary aged childrenWillingness to support the school’s mission and visionAbility to maintain student confidentiality Essential Duties:Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movementEstablish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areasProvide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of studentsEvaluate academic and social growth of students, prepare report cards, and keep appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessaryModel nondiscriminatory practices in all activitiesMaintain professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.Measure student progress to encourage the mastery of school district/state/national standardsCreate appealing lessons that implement a variety of methodologiesDesign, plan, and implement physical education lessons based on school district/state/national standardsEnsure accommodations and modifications are made for the growth and development of all studentsEnsure that the physical education environment is clean, safe and constructive for all studentsTeach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, rhythms and dance, health education, and individual dual and team sports.Demonstrate the use of proven, research-based strategies for effective classroom management, lesson planning, active student engagement, and instructional deliverySupport a school’s shared vision and common goals regarding physical education, physical activity, and health and wellnessMaintain records of individual student achievement and evaluating students on a continuous basisPrepare for classes and maintain written evidence of preparation.Uphold and enforce school rules, school board policies, and administrative regulationsWork with other members of the physical education staff to plan instructional goals, objectives and methodsOther duties as assigned by the PrincipalPhysical Requirements:Ability to move all equipment in the gymnasium. Be physically and emotionally capable of carrying-out responsibilities and duties in a busy environment. This position requires sustained physical activity such as moderate to frequent exertion in body movements such as reaching, bending, twisting, standing, jogging, and other movements to demonstrate lessons in physical education.
