Geminus & Regional Health Systems is Hiring a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS 255) Near Merrillville, IN

Position: Certified Recovery Specialist

Regional Health Systems is Northwest Indiana’s largest provider of community-based mental health care, primary health care and addiction treatment services. We offer adults and children—both uninsured and insured—integrated care through our community mental health center and federally qualified health center. Regional Health Systems is a member of the Regional Care Group.

Position Purpose: To provide peer support services as part of a community response team and serve as a consumer advocate, provide consumer information, and provide peer support for consumers participating in the CRSS/MCT. Serve as a role model/mentor and perform a wide range of tasks to assist consumers in regaining control over acute crises.

Essential Functions:

Assist consumers in:

  • Identification of personal goals related to mental health and/or substance misuse.
  • Articulating personal mental health or substance misuse related targets or goals for improvement.
  • Determining reasonable and holistic steps moving toward recovery.
  • Provide crisis management, including but not limited to crisis assessment planning and developing individualized crisis safety plans.

Support consumers by:

  • Reinforce positive progress made toward recovery goals
  • Demonstrate effective verbal intervention skills in de-escalating clients and the ability to identify risk situations and manage aggressive behaviors.
  • Assist non-consumer staff in identifying program elements that are supportive or destructive to stabilization
  • Responding to safe settings without the consumers Natural Environment.

Teamwork/Performance Improvement:

  • Attend treatment team meetings and to represent the needs and perspectives of the consumer
  • Support treatment team objectives and strategies
  • Demonstrate ability to work with other disciplines in a team approach, and with supervisor, peers and subordinates
  • Recognize opportunities for improvement in processes/systems

Maintain Individual Effectiveness:

  • Maintain effective coping and self-help techniques
  • Maintain and develop professional skills by maintaining certification through required coursework, participation in continuing education, and completion of appropriate Relias trainings.
  • Utilize your unique lived experience with each consumer without providing specific, personal information (i.e. personal phone number, social media, making contact outside of work related activities.)

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of policies and procedures within the agency and department.

Productivity:

  • Build/maintain external relationships to enhance referrals.
  • Meet established individual or department productivity expectations (if applicable).

Maintain an appropriate blend of treatment modalities, (if applicable)

Ethical/Legal Issues:

  • Demonstrate understanding of one’s professional code of ethics and comply with the code
  • Demonstrate knowledge of state code regarding reporting procedures for child and adult abuse and comply with those procedures
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the state code regarding commitments
  • Demonstrate an understanding of clients’ rights and observe those rights

Diversity:

  • Demonstrate personal behavior and attitudes that are respectful and supportive of individuals, including those who are different from him/herself in terms of race/ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, age, sex, religion/spirituality or disability
  • Demonstrate ability to identify special needs in human diversity and modify his/her clinical practice to accommodate or deal with these diversity needs

Computer Literacy:

  • Demonstrate ability to utilize computer resources required to perform job responsibilities

Appropriate adherence to computer policies, security issues and user guidelines

Communicates effectively:

  • Returns phone calls in reasonable timeframe,
  • Coordinates with other community services,
  • Check on Release of Information documentation prior to disclosing personal consumer information.
  • Sends and responds to releases of confidential information.
  • Provider appropriately communicates information in a timely and professional manner.
  • Email communications with request for a response will have a response within 24-hours.

Consumer Satisfaction Ratings:

  • Consumer Satisfaction is defined for this purpose as lack of complaints from clients and /or community agencies regarding employee’s timeliness in responding and/or appropriateness of response, or quality of service issues.

Works cooperatively with supervisor:

  • Obtains supervisor signature on appropriate documentation.
  • Participates in supervision as determined by policy.
  • Notifies supervisor of any developing conflicts with planned supervision times.
  • Seeks out supervision when needed.

Works cooperatively with others:

  • Must have the ability and willingness to accept direction.
  • Must be willing to interact with law enforcement, hospital staff, and all other professionals in the utmost respectful manner.
  • Demonstrates courtesy and respect in relationships with professionals within the organization and within area partner organizations.
  • Provider is not engaged in verbal, physical, or behavioral conflicts with others while representing Regional Health Systems.

Safety:

  • Threats/Statements indicating Suicide, Homicide, or Violence risk will be reported to a team member, paired therapist, or supervisor immediately.
  • Display familiarity with Unusual Event Reporting,
  • Completed needed safety training
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the 8 Environment of Care components (safety, security, hazardous materials, life safety, emergency preparedness, utilities management, physical management and medical equipment)
  • Understand and adhere to infection control procedures, including universal precautions and exposure incidents
  • Follow safety procedures indicated for specific job performance and general surroundings, and demonstrate knowledge of unusual event report procedures.Act to safeguard staff, clients, visitors and property from potential harm
  • Effectively utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) when needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge about the use and location of fire pull, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, flashlights, bio-hazard kits, and AED equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of drill and emergency procedures including bomb threats, severe weather, fire drills, administrator-in-charge, evacuation routes and emergency codes
  • Reporting safety concerns to appropriate facility staff in a timely manner

Transports clients as required safely and on time, if applicable

  • Demonstrate ability to safely drive and follow rules of the road.

Requirements:

  • Education: HS Diploma or GED
  • Experience: 1 year preferred, but not required
  • Additional Information: This position requires a Recovery Specialist Certification in Indiana

Shift: Full-time, Non-Exempt; Days but varies based on the needs of clients; seeking candidate with schedule flexibility.
