New Opportunities Inc is Hiring a Cook Near MERIDEN, CT

Description

Full-Time, Non-Union, Non-Exempt Position

$19.00 per hour, 40 hours per week

Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

BASIC FUNCTION OF COOK:

Provide daily evening meal for the residents of the shelter. Insures all food products are prepared, served, and stored (sealed in sanitary containers). Develop and maintain nutritionally balanced food menus. Maintain inventory of all food product and supplies. Submits request for food and supplies. Maintains an inventory and maintenance schedule for all food service equipment. Provides service and training to enroll students of Work Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF COOK:

  • Responsible for ordering and keeping inventory of all food supplies.
  • Responsible for ordering and keeping inventory of all kitchen supplies.
  • Responsible for dealing with vendors for ordering.
  • Responsible for keeping sanitary conditions in kitchen and storage areas (State Health Department Codes & Standards).
  • Responsible for keeping and maintaining Health Department (Food Service) License current.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS OF COOK:

Education:

  • H. S. Diploma or GED
  • Culinary training/certification

Experience:

  • 2-5 years in cooking/culinary work
  • 1-2 years in food service management

Job Skills:

  • Cooking(preparation)
  • Food handling (sanitary)
  • Serving (technique & professionalism)
  • Ordering

Licenses/Certifications:

  • ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification (per Health Department Standards)
  • Valid State of CT driver’s license.
