Job Description
Provide general fire protection engineering support for nuclear and non-nuclear facilities, both surface and underground. Develop and revise fire hazards analysis, fire risk assessments, fire protection assessments, and fire exemptions and equivalencies. Review of and participation in work packages, job plans, timely orders, and change requests. Review design packages, procurement and subcontract documents, and fire protection related documents (design drawings, shop drawings, design analyses, calculations, reports, test plans, inspection criteria and results, and similar). Develop and revise documents such as occupancy evaluations, fire loading calculations, and separation distances. Provide recommendations regarding fire impairments and compensatory measures. Provide recommendations related to fire protection SSCs and administrative processes and controls. Support development and review of nuclear facility safety bases and resolution of fire protection caWeb issues. Ensure compliance with applicable fire protection related codes and standards (NFPA, DOE, MSTS, and similar).
Educational Requirements:
Required Education/Experience: Minimum Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Fire Protection, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees, or a Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree in engineering, or Professional Engineer license. Minimum of three years' experience in the Department of Energy complex working as a Fire Protection Engineer, preferred. Minimum of 1-year experience conducting Fire Hazards Analyses and Fire Protection Assessments for Nuclear Facilities, preferred. In depth knowledge of fire protection system related instrumentation and control, electrical, mechanical or electromechanical components (fire detection and alarm, fire barriers, fire suppression/extinguishment) preferred.
